I was just thinking about the next time I take a green crew up in my YT-1300. I was envisioning showing them around, and generally inducting them into howa crew runs such a ship. Then I realised, there's access panels to fix all of the ship components that may be damaged during battle, but there's no access to the flight computer interface.
I think this is a particularly big oversight. Especially when you consider the roles of all the crew members. The pilot is responsable for navigation, which requires a functioning engine. The engine can be repaired. The gunners are responsable for operating the turrets, which requires functioning weapons and capacitor. These three can also be repaired. The co-pilot however, is responsible for operating the flight computer, which requires a functioning interface. The FC interface cannot be repaired (on the fly, like everything else).
It is possible for the interface to be hit, because it's happened to me in my fighter.
Come to think of it, we can't repair our ordinance either (on the fly, from inside the ship), which does kind of lead on to the "reloading in space" issue, but I won't go there just now.
What does everyone else think?

I agree, it would be nice to repair it in-ship. But if the ship has taken that much damage, I think it's not far from being taken out totally anyway, so the crew would really have to be on the ball as far as repairs go.

Once I've drilled them, I wouldn't expect less

Nope, you can't repair armour from the inside. That makes sense to me, because the armour plating is on the outside. If we wanted to go as far as talking about physical holes in the ship's hull (and thus patching them), then we'd have to worry about the vacuum of space and players getting sucked out
So I'm sticking to talking about the computer interface because that is an internal component.

Are you on about the Naboo cruiser in Ep1 which R2 fixed? Interesting possibility indeed!
(In that example though, they were fixing the shield generator, and in all our MP ships that's on the inside).
