Thread: Simultaneous Missile launches?

Is it possible to get a single lock on a target and fire a single missile simultaneously from 2 or 3 individual launchers? Instead of waiting for each launcher to lock on to the target individually.

Yes, or more specifically, I think they both independantly lock, but that's just semantics since they do that at the same time(think there're multiple lock beeps).

Hmm, well I have 2 space bomb launchers. When I lock I fire and have to wait for a RE lock to fire the second. So, I was curious if there was a way to fire both launchers at the same time from 1 lock. aka dual fire.

You can out them in the same weapon group, then bind a key to fire that group.

However I heard that there used to be problems with this, that you would lose 2 missiles but only do the damage of 1. I'm not sure what the status of this currently is though.

It kind of sounds like you're cycling through weapons. The suggestion of putting them in the same group should work, but if there IS a bug with that, you could always assign them to their own groups, and hit whatever keys or buttons you have those groups assigned to at the same time.

I tryed something like this last night, had a space bomb launcher and a seismic launcher both with ammo. Put them in the same weapon group and bound space key to fire current ordnance group.

let them get full lock and just hit space several times. Missles defnitely didn't fire simultaneously, one was first, then the other followed close behind it. It would appear that both can have lock at the same time but one has to fire first and another has to fire second. Similar blasters in the same group with the same refire rate. 2 blasts occur. I use 2 lvl 7 adv blasters with same refire rate and have them in the same group. The first shot or 2 they look like one blaster, then as firing continues you notice that while firing at the same time, one blast is in front of the other.

So I believe that you cannot fire weapons simultaneously. They fire in an order despite being told to fire at the same time.

OK, but does it fire off of the same lock? I could live with the appearance of 1 firing then the other, but to have to wait for each launcher to lock separately is dangerous. When im using my Space bombs I dont have alot of time on target. It would really help to get 1 lock and fire both launchers then booster away, even if it LOOKS like they fire staggered.

Quite honestly I see no advantage to ships that have more than 1 launcher if you couldnt fire from each launcher, at the same time. Unless you count ammo.

Press "g" in space, then move both missile launchers to the same grouping, worked for my nova courier o=

ive yet to test if all 3 missiles are hit by 1 fired countermeasure yet though, or if 1 gets destroyed and the other 2 move on.

Im curious to know that as well... would 1 countermeasure affect all 3 missiles or just 1? Has anyone seen the above mentioned "bug" that grouped missiles launched only do the damage of 1? If this all turns out well ships like the Opressor will be quaite a handfull if lock is aquired. 3 spacebombs tweaked (experimented )to have a FAST lock + high minimum damage could be a decent punch if launched in a volley. I'm guessing the alarms sounded by such a launch will sound like only 1 missile is inbound. Thus effectively masking the other 2 ( IF a single countermeasure affects ONLY 1 of the inbound volley ).

Curious

I ask this question a few weeks back and was told that when you fire two missles at the same time the first missle hits the traget and in the explosion destroys the second missle on its way in, only getting the effect of 1 missle. I have not tested this so take it for what it is worth.

Although that seems logical I dont think SOE thought in that far. As far as I know missiles cannot be targeted, and there for SHOULD not be considered a valid target. I would also guess that bombs / missiles dont have an area of effect attack ( so blowing up the other missile in the first explosion seem unlikely ). Lastly, if this were true, how many missiles have been consumed by other players missiles? Say for example on a corvette run? It would make such targets VERY difficult to attack with missiles / bombs if it were true.

However, what I could see happening would be the first missile destroys its target and the second missile has no target and simply detonates without damage done or a target to do damage to. So from outside appearances it would seem it was consumed by the first missiles blast OR that it blew up without having done any damage at all ( aka the "bug" a few have seen ).

Anyone know how to test this? accurately?

I paired up 2 Mk3 proton trop launchers a few nights back, and fired on a tier 5 interceptor. You know how torps are - you can't kill anything tier 5 with them in one shot. And this was no exception either, so I can say that it definitely doesn't have anything to do with the target being destroyed by the first torp, that the second torp is wasted.

I didn't know of a bug before all of this, though. It's actually hard to track missiles after launch, as the tails sort of "die" about a couple of seconds after. You might be able to tell sometimes whether it hit or not - but the damamge tends to be calculated before the missile even seems to hit, so it can get hard to tell whether one missile or 2 did the right amount of damage..

Thats disappointing. If this is the case, other than ammo, what good is having multiple launchers?
