Thread: Question on the Vaksai mission.

I'm just back from a 9-month break, and my piloting skills are a bit rusty. :/

I'm having problems with the Corvette mission in the Vaksai line, and I was looking for some tips.

Soloing the actual Vette isn't the problem, that wasn't very hard at all.

My problem is the very final part of the escort, where the Tier 5 gunboat spawns. Normally, I can handle a Tier 5 gunboat (pilot is Privateer, 4/3/3/3), but when this one spawns, the Vette is dead literally 5 seconds later. I barely even have a chance to engage the gunboat before the Vette dies. I've tried it several times, and the result is the same each time.

So, my question is this: how do I keep the gunboat from killing the damn Vette so quickly? Is this part of the quest soloable?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

When it comes to these missions, there's disabling the 'vette and disabling the vette.

If you were doing it by stripping of all the guns in the process, well that's presented some problems for people. The guns regenerate sure, but the AI doesn't seem to go after these new guns before it goes after the reactor and bridge. The guns aren't there for the damage they do during the escort, they are there for the extra time it takes the NPCs to blow them up.

-disable the vette by only taking out gun 5, or no guns at all if you fly behind it carefully and use rockets on the core systems.

-delay your disabling as long as possible (4km from Kashyyk station is good on the Vaksai mission) this means less gunboat time, or maybe even no gunboats at all.

OK, I read this somewhere from someone who had perfected it:

Don't kill the guns. Stay behind the Vette (after having destroyed the escort) and do the necessary killing with missiles. That way, the Vette has turrets to defend itself when the GB's attack.

Ahh, I was taking out all 7 turrets before popping the shields and engine. I thought you had to.

So I can just take out shields/engine and ignore the turrets and it'll still disable correctly?

Still, this worries me. What was making me fail before wasn't that the Vette couldn't defend itself, it was the fact that the Vette died so fast I barely had time to react. It was like "Oh look, there's a gunboa...... *BOOM*." Every time. Frustrating.

Thanks for the tips though, I'll give it a try!

Edit: Ahhh. It's an AI targeting thing. So, if I leave the turrets, the enemies will attack turrets before anything else?

I think I understand now. Thanks

That was happening because said gunboat was attacking the 2 remaining systems, which goes much quicker than if it has to strip guns before it goes to those systems.

Further hint: occasionally target the 'vette during the escort and monitor the condition of the reactor, and the bridge if the reactor gets blown up.

One thing I noticed on this mission as well, there are enemy fighters coming in with the gunboats. It looked to me like the fighters were doing bombing runs on the vette that were taking out turrets and doing most of the damage. I left all the guns on the vette then took out the fighters attacking while doing my best to hide from thegunboats. I'm not positive, but it looks to me like the Rix coming in with the GBs is using spacebombs. Try taking that out first....and then the other fighters...and then just keep out of the way of the gunboats. I don't think they do much to the vette until the bombers take out its turrets. I've done the vaksai and heavy Xwing for others several times while they waited at the station. Once thevette escapesI tell them to talk to their station for the reward and hyperspace out before the gunboats come after them.

I just did the Vaksai mission last night. I didn'ttake outany of the guns and the vette did just fine when the gunboats showed up. I disabled it a bit too early and wound up with three gunboats at once too. I just sat back and watched the show. The vette's systems dropped down as low as 62 percent before it hypered out.

Note: After you disable the vette's engines, be sure to sit in the blind spot until the bridge is taken. The bad guys still control the guns and they will fry you if they get the chance.

Mission accomplished, first try.

Thanks for the advice, folks. Worked like a charm. Didn't even have to use missiles, just took out Turret 5, shunted, and blew away the shields and engine without getting within the arc of the other turrets.

I waited to blow the engines until the Kashyyyk Station was about 4k away, and the mission was done before I even had to deal with a single gunboat.

Thanks a ton.

true, I don't know how may times I've had to redo this one when the person I'm helping didnt heed this warning and came charging in as soon as the engines went down.

"wow dude, that was fast....im coming in to escort it now"

"NO...stay in blindspot"

"ahhhhh!!!!!!".........."what happened?.....I thought it was disabled"

"meet you at the station"
