Thread: Framerate improvement

I'm curious what tips people might have for improving framerate in space. I have a fairly high end machine, drivers are up to date, I did a fresh reboot, all that kind of thing. And still, I occasionally run into some nasty framerate drops, and in a twich game it's killing me (literally!). I lost at least one fight to framerate tonight, and I know it's caused problems in the past.

Any special tweaks for space? Files I can modify? Things I can turn off besides nebulas?

Yep i get bad frame rates aswell, only noticable parts are dantooine (almost anywhere, i think its the high nebulae density) and the damn lighting things that are pointless.

But I hte losing to framerates.. those 1fps are killers.. but the ohter night I disabled a bunch of stuffi n the game options of the launch pad.. it's helepd with the ground a lot.. only been in space once, been pvp'ing ont eh ground, but tonight when I was up there seemed slightly smoother.. though that could be the beer talking. i don't know, i'll know more sunday haha..

You guys better be there! I will this time for about an hour and ahalf

rofl...how'd you know that I would come to the pilot forums and click on this thread first thing?

I gotta find a way to get those starter ships...or maybe everyone can go to a server that no one is on if we can find one

I think I see the idea. The only way I can see to implement it would be to have someone generate and strip parts from 10 or so Prototypes, set them up in backpacks with hand crafted starter chassis. I can generate the prototype components, if someone else wants to make the Chassis.

PS- can we have boosters and some matching slow DIs? The idea of tolling around at<500 with no booster does not appeal...

  • As a tip from Devs during JTL beta - disable cockpit view to improve framerate.

  • Tip from me - put nebula density to minimum. Disable blum will give you 1-2 extra fps.

  • When switching from groun dto space and back run the following: "/flushGraphicsResources fullReset" - this will flush not needed resources loaded during being in another zone (thus after switching ground or space).

Actually, oddly, when you and I were in DS I was fine. When I reappeared at the station it got laggy on me, so I rebooted. I went back up, ran into another X-Wing, and that's when I had trouble again.

Thanks for the tips, some stuff to toy with. I've cut back a lot of the ground options, but it's hard to guess which ones affect space as well (like drawing distant objects and such).

My problem regarding space-lag seems to specifically be me getting shot. Anytime my shield gets hit and it "flashes" my FPS drops by half or more. This problem immediately goes away if Shields get breeched and they stop flashing.

REAL aggrivating in missions with Multiple targets shooting at me. It has gotten me killed more than a few times, unfortunately.

For some reason video memory is not getting cleared/dumped properly. When my frame rate starts to drop, I usually minimize the game, open another app like mine sweeper, then switch back to SWG.
It seems to clear up the lag quite a bit.
