Thread: From Privateer to Imperial

I want to switch from Privateer Ace to Imperial pilot, but I have -4000 Imperial faction points. Will I need to get these points back to become an Imperial pilot? I just don't want to drop my Master Pilot right now and find out that I have to get the points back and be pilotless until I do.

Easiest is to declare and hangout at the frigate just a little ways away from the Dath Space station. 4k is about an hour of killing the tier 4 rebs there.

I'll be able to get Imperial faction points in space even if I'm a neutral pilot?

Yes, you should, go to an imperial station and declare...in Dath, the closes Jump point to the Imp station to declare is Empire's Justice.

You mean you can declare a faction even if your a "civillian" on the ground?

I would very much like confirmation of this. -5k imp fp, done with freelancer, finishing up the 3rd rebel squadron this weekend. No combat skills on the ground. If I can pick up freelancer to grind away that fp I'd be very happy.

Hmm, I don't think so. I think you can only declare for your faction on the ground. If you're pure neutral, I'm not sure you can declare for either side unless you're going to Deep Space, where you can't gain FP as a privateer.
Could be wrong, but that's my understanding of it.

If you do not want to earn the FP to get you back to 0 (and hence be able to join an Imp Squadron) there is always the option to buy it from an Imperial smuggler.

I suppose I can try to test this late tonight ... I have a character which is totally neutral and a CorSec pilot, and I may need to change the neutrality anyway for a (ground game) Corvette mission.
All right, I tried to go Overt at an Alliance station in Coronet space, and was unable to. It seems you can't use your own ship to grind away negative FP, though you might have been able to in the past ... if you were able to, then I suppose they changed it when they tied JtL and the ground game factions closer together.
Further, I just signed up for a faction, and am NOW able to go Overt for that side. I suppose the only way to use space to grind a new faction may be to fly with somebody else.
