It's a deed, not crafted. You get it by completing a series of quests starting with a pilot on Kashyyyk, Flash Harrison.

What about the stories about it needing a mining laser?

You get several from the mining quests. But shipwrights do have a schematic for a mining laser that only the Y-8 can use.

You have to complete a series of mining and attacking quests and at the end you will get the deed. You receive 2 cargo holds for starfighters during the quest, a small and a large one. You also get a mark I, a mark II and at tractor beam during the quest. the Y-8 comes already with a 10k cargohold and you can put any regular ship components on it. The last mission happens on kessel and you only do one in kessel so if you are there that means you will finish soon. I have not flown the ship yet, but I am about to. The only tip I can give you is that do not bother equip the mining lasers or tractor beam for the destroy mission. If the NPC does not say mine, then it is fully a destroy mission so you can go ahead with all your weapons to make it faster. The quests are not hard, but they are time consuming as they make you land after each one.
