Thread: Mass but never any mention of maneuverability

I see everyone talks about mass which I understand. You can fit more stuff into it. Does maneuverability just not matter very much? I mean you look at the Krayt and it has a lot of mass, but it has like 1/6 the maneuverability of the Scyyk heavy. I have no experience, so I am asking...does it not matter?

Well yes it matters, but in some instances more than others. For instance, in PVP, when you have to fight against something (someone) that really thinks for him or herself, then they will manuver just as much as you will, and basically whoever can outturn the other will win (unless they missle spam of course.)

In PVE, the Krayt is superior because of its armaneant and mass. Mass in important in PVE because you can fit higher level weaponry and shields, and take out enemies faster and hold off against higher level enemies longer with shields.

In pvp, usually it takes 2-3 shots with lvl 8 RE'd guns until your dead (or a few missles) - So mass really doesnt matter as much as manuverability.

So basically, and im sure someone will explain this better than I can - it all depends on what you want to do.

Depends on your environment really.

Heavy ships for heavy targets is not entirely a bad generalization. PvE gunboat hunting, helps to have more shields/weapon power.

PvP, unless you are a very skill flight sim'er, you'll want every bit of maneuverability you can get, plus PvP hit/kills are much quicker than PvP currently.

Total generalizations and everyone has reason they fly something different than the next guy. I do think though that, assuming they are using flgiht programs (especially engine overload), a new player has a better chance in a heavier ship for PvE, as more firepower will mean they don't have to hit an NPC ship as many time to kill it. All just my random thoughts though...

edit: just beat me to it, sorry for saying basically the same thing. Think I will log on and play a few.

Thanks for your replies. This came because I looked at the ship stats in the stickies. The maneuverability differences between a Scyyk and a Krayt seemed extreme. Almost typo extreme.

They are as different as night and day. But the Krayt has 3 Guns, a Turret and a Bomb Slot. The Syck has one gun. Against a Gunboat or Corvette, one Blaster is going to take a while; 3 +1 is not. But in PvP, one gun is more than enough.
