Many players, including myself, have unintentionally robbed themselves of top-shelf equipment the first time they went through mastering a pilot profession. This is because of the fact that at the end of every - that’s right, EVERY - “story mission” from tier 2 on, the pilot trainer gives you a unique piece of equipment for completion of the mission.
The game notifies you of a monetary reward and possibly faction depending on the mission, but fails to say anything about these items. Having more than likely just come in from the mission, most players’ inventories are stock full of components as it is and they might not realize that one more has just been added to the pile.
To add to this little problem, many of these reward components are, at first glance or to the untrained eye, unremarkable. This is because the primary strength of these items is that they are perfect for reverse engineering, having one or two statistics that are much better than anything else you might loot. The other statistics will be average or outright bad, and so younger pilots might not realize their potential.
I have compiled this list of components so that you can know what to look for, and avoid selling something to the starship vendor that might have helped you out quite a bit. Note that most rewards are identical across all three pilot factions, with the only thing changing being the name. There are some exceptions to this, and I will point these out. Also note that when I say that some such item has the best whatever value, I am saying this in the context of the level of the item, and also within the context of looted equipment and not crafted.
Tier 2
Freelance Hoersch-Kessel Military-Grade Blaster
Rebel Taim & Bak “Ion Driver”
Imperial Cygnus “Starblaster” Disruptor
This weapon has the highest damage of any Level 4 weapon, and good damage modifiers for shields and armor as well.
Freelance SoroSuub “W-19” Droid Interface
These DI’s have good armor and hit points, but that’s about it. Instead of a droid interface the Imperials get the Sienar Fleet Systems Light Military Grade Durasteel. It has decent protection and a very low weight.
Freelance MandalMotors “M Series” Booster
Imperial Republic Sienar Systems Ion Booster
Good weight and acceleration, and fantastic energy and recharge. It becomes an amazing booster when reverse engineered with one that has a low consumption rate.
Freelance
Has the best shield strength of any Level 4 shield; also has a decent regeneration rate.

Tier 3
Imperial Cygnus “Megadrive” Starship Engine
The best speed you will find almost anywhere, even post nerf. This engine is a must for the lighter fighters. The only time you will want a higher level engine installed is on the heavier ships that can support the weight. That being said, the ONLY thing good about this engine is the speed, so RE it as soon as possible.
Freelance SoroSuub “V-1” Weapon Capacitor
Imperial Rendili “K-Class” Weapon Capacitor
I’m not sure if this is a bug or not, but every time I have gotten this capacitor, it has different stats, like it was a regular loot drop. This is the only reward item that changes this way as far as I know.

I’m assuming that the good stat on these reactors is the armor/hit points, because when you can loot stuff like this, why bother with these things?
Freelance KSE Handcrafted Durasteel Plating
Really amazing armor protection, but heavy. One of the few times it is worthwhile to RE armor instead of just using crafted. Instead of the armor, Imperials get the Sienar Fleet Systems Military Grade DI. It has…good armor and hit points, but that’s it.
Tier 4
Freelance Armek "Plasma Web" Shield Generator
Imperial Cygnus "Holoscreen" Shield Generator
You won’t find better shield strength than this. The other stats are kind of bad though. A must for reverse engineering.
Freelance Borstel Disruptor
Rebel Incom "Tri-cannon"
Imperial Sienar Design Systems "Boltdriver"
The Rebel and Freelance versions have the best damage of any level 8 weapon and the best energy per shot of ANY weapon. The Imperial version has the best damage of any level 7 weapon.
Freelance MandalMotors "Q Series" Booster
Similar to the level 4 booster reward in its strengths, compared to other level 8 boosters.
Freelance Haor Chall Military Grade Engine
Very good speed, but the rest of the stats are…meh. Very nice item to RE though. This reward is unique to Freelance pilots.
Rebel Novaldex Low-Latency DI
Ummm, nice armor and hit points I guess. Otherwise, nothing special. This reward is unique to Rebel pilots.
Excellent armor value for a level 8 piece. This reward is unique to Imperial pilots.
This item is unique to Imperial pilots, thankfully. In the words of Luke Skywalker, “what a piece of junk!”
I hope this guide helps my fellow pilots out. Let me know about any comments or suggestions you might have for this guide, or whether I’m wrong about something so I can update it. The areas that are blank are that way because I sold those items before deciding to do this guide, so I should have those up soon.

If you really want to put together a nice engine, try to get your hands on one of the pre-nerf level 8 freelancer engines. The current ones are only 88.5 speed, before REing, but the old ones used to be 103.3 speed before REing. They seem to be pretty rare, though. It took me a month to find a pre-nerf one, and I ended up paying 15mil for it.
