Thread: Spawn point etiquette and other questions from a new pilot
In my first MMORPG experience, in City of Heroes, it was considered very rude to attack any target in a spawn someone else was already fighting unless you were in a group together. But in COH you could go five meters down the street and find three more spawns. In JTL there are only two places I know of that I can go to find tier 1 TIEs, and there's no choice I can see but to share. I do usually back off a target if I see someone else already shooting at it.
Another player told me it's not an issue in JTL because when a ship is destroyed, everyone who attacked it gets the XP, not just the player who got the killing shot. But I've been unable to confirm that ingame.
I don't want to get in the way of anyone else's fun. What's appropriate?
I have some other questions as well. When I say something in spatial, do other players in the same area see it? The same system? What's the range? I have never seen any spatial chat from any other player, or gotten a reply to anything I've said. Of course, it could have been drowned out by the constant stream of NPC smacktalk.
Is there any way to turn off the little green "leading" crosshairs? I find them more annoying than helpful.
Is there any place I can go to find tier 2 TIE fighters? I've looked all over the hyperspace map, and everything seems to be either tier 1 or tier 3 and up. I can't even find tier 2 independants to fight.
Will throttle-style game controllers work on JTL alongside a joystick?
J.
But all players get full xp.

What is the etiquette for sharing a spawn zone. I've been blowing up tier 1 TIE fighters off Talus on Starsider, and there are usually a few other rebel ships as well who I assume are players and not NPCs. I'm concerned that I may have been guilty of "kill stealing."
If someone is already there, I shoot it once to get the xp and let them finish it off for the loot.

Duty missions generate spawns and avoid the entire issue of killstealing

That is correct. Everyone who hit it gets full xp.

Well, between fighting and flying to the next waypoint while sorting loot, there's not much time left to type.

Can't be turned off, use them to your advantage to find the sweet spot.

Yes

2. Don't worry too much about targets. If they are on a mission, you cannot hurt their targets. And don't worry too much about Aces or high Tier players hitting the Tier 1-2 spawns. The only time I kill those is if they are between me and the space station. They aren't worth the time for high level pilots.
