Thread: Love Pilot, but it's really frustrating

So I decided to pick up JTL for a change of pace and whatnot, and I really enjoy piloting. No silly doc buffs, and it feels more like star wars (im not constantly hearing a hammer hit something, actual blasters), and its much more challenging than spamming F5. I'm currently a CorSec pilot at 4-4-3-4. Up to this point, I've been able to do all my missions by myself. However, this 3rd mission is just not very possible I think. I'm supposed to take out 2 tier 4 gunships. Shaaa right!

So, I know I'm gonna need some help. I've been up with a few pilots before so I try to get some help. But this is very difficult. I try standing in Coronet Starport asking for help. But there are really 2 things against me.

First, there is a real anti-group mentality in SWG. This has been the case for about a year. Now, I've found pilots aren't as bad as others in this regard, but it can still be true. But the biggest problem is, an overall lack of pilots. There are very few people who actually fly. Even a lot of master pilots don't fly anymore after they master. This makes finding help for these missions extremely difficult and frustrating, and I'll bet it leads a lot of people to just give up on piloting all together.

Now, I have been able to get a wingmate for this mission on two different occassions. Both times it was a master up there with me. And we weren't able to do it either time. This seems a little extreme to me. I don't think a mission to get trained in a profession should be this hard. Something this hard should be some kind of quest for pilots to do, not something required just to get trained.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for groups, and if I have the choice of going solo or group, I will choose group, cause this is an MMO, and I want to interact with other people. There just aren't enough people to interact with in space. I've got a friend's list with about 10 pilots on it at the moment, everyone wants to help, but there is never more than one pilot on at a time. And they are busy and have their own things to do besides holding my hand through these missions.

So I guess my point is I think some of these missions are a bit too difficult (I mean myself and an ACE can't do them), and that might turn off some potential pilots, which makes space even more empty. Thanks.

oh, yeah, my name is Adak on Gorath. Like I said, I know some pilots, just tough to find anyone online at the same time, and if they are online, they also need to have some free time.

I'm tempted to make pilots on other servers just so I can jump around and help people randomly.

I hear ya. I'm Black Epsion on Starsider and can't get past the tier 2 "kill the diplomat" mission. He's in a YT-1300 and tier 2, and so are his 4 buddies in x-wings.

Stardust almost as soon as start. Frustrating.

Sorry to hear of your frustration.

But on my server (Radiant) There is a small group of dedicated pilots that can always be found in space. Most of us havetwo accounts and fly Reb/Free or Imp/Free, so we are able to help anyone no matter what squadron they're in. Content after mastering is slim (and I'm beind generous) so we all jump at helping people with a mission.

The hardest thing, as mentioned, is trying to find everyone on at the same time. When I was faced with a similar problem, I had to log in every night and eventually enough people were found to complete the mission from hell.

And about that mission you are talking about, it's all about experience. The first time I was in a group that did it, it took 8 pilots, 2 of whom were masters, to finish it. But recentlyI have completed that mission with just 2 people.

Bottom line.. is the mission hard? Yes. Is it too hard? No.

Be paitient and it will happen. And when you become a master pilot and blow those gunships to pieces, it's going to feel damn good!

I'll help you out. Send me a tell sometime on Gorath, my name is Degwin. Alliance ace pilot. I'm assuming you're a Rebel or privateer. If you're an Imperial, though, then I probably can't help you.

(Edit) Ah, I see you're Corsec. Hmm... and Corsec is Imperial, correct? Well, I'm not sure if I can still help you or not. Depends on what faction your enemies are.

RSF is the Imperial-aligned ones. CorSec is mostly Rebel-aligned, I think, though they're more flexible than RSF in terms of what they can target.

I recommend hopping from system to system and using /who. Sure there are a ton of people in Coronet, but the chances of them being pilots looking for something to do is very very very slim. The names in a /who are up in space already. Maybe hanging out, maybe not wanting to help, but at least its a filtered audience. Being so near Ace, you are pretty handy in your own right (I hope ) so you could arrange help given for help requested.

PS a couple hints to that particularmission. I know you feel the need to take a lead role, it being "your mission" and all, but all that leads to on this bear of a mission is failures and frustration. The mission fails if YOU buy it, so hang back at first, have your wingmen peel the fighters, and bring them to you, work together in easy stages, where you stay alive, so that the hard work isn't wasted. It feels like a copout I know, but think of it as being a commander in an eye in the sky position. You can tell your helper when to break and run, since you can eye the position of both gunboats, you can observe the loop path and find a spot at extreme range and plink in a few shots each time one comes around. This mission seems designed to teach patience more than anything.

PPS as Corsec you get to choose your Master mission. If one or more of your helpers aren't aces yet, and will be doing master mission soon, give serious thought to picking the same mission they will be doing, so you can continue the good teambuilding.
