As I previously did the heavy x and vaksai quest before switching factions i cant get the RGI. So I figured I'd buy one. Unfortunatly on my server their somewhat expensive(5-7 mill credits) so I decided to do a little bit of extra research on it first.
Whilst looking over the FAQ i noticed it has less mass and worse stats than the heavy tie. so my question is for PvE is it really worth me shelling out the extra credits fora RGI or should i just pickup a heavy tie.
Now as far as i can tell the RGI's only advantage over the H/T is the smaller hit box. But i maybe overlooking something.
Help me out here please

RGI vs TIE Heavy variant in PVE? TIE Heavy variant FTW.
The only real advantage to the RGI is the bugged hitbox. How much help that can be in PVE? No idea. But like grinding pilot in the back of a MP ship you don't really learn much in an RGI. For that matter it can be argued a Heavy TIE is a cheater ship.

Im already a master so exp isnt my concern. and i switch off between a T/A and a T/O so im pretty up to speed on balancing mass etc. I just get the feeling theres a more effecient fighter out there for PvE stuff that isnt the jedi starfighter or B22.

Definately the RGI would win in PvE. For the sole reason of that emphasis.
I use my RGI exclusively for PvE, since it's a really bad choice for PvP. The bugged hitbox alone makes it all worthwhile. You can skimp on shields and armor to make up for the lower mass compared to the Heavy TIE. I typically fly mine with a 7k mass shield and no armor at all, and never have to worry. Even helped a friend the other day finish off his Black Epsilon tier 3 4th mission, where you have to go up against the Karthakk Queen. Never once did I have to worry about shunting as that thing offloaded everything it had into my shields and I happily watched it all bounce right off. I think 1 out of every 15 shots actually landed. I just proceeded to fly circles around the thing and blew it up in no time at all packing a RE'd level 9 gun.
Granted, like FLMOPE stated, you won't learn much, but with you being master already, you should know most of the stuff there is to know about flying. But, I will warn that after flying that for a week exclusively, I did get that invulnerable feeling and it took me a good hour to get used to "real" flying again when I hopped back in my Opp.

Heavy TIE.... as much as I love the Interceptor and RGI. It is much easier to deal with slow moving targets like b-wings and y-wings that turn best at about 50% throttle with a ship that does the same like the heavy tie. The Interceptor and RGI turn best at about 90% so if you fly it b e prepared to do alot of circling becuase they are going to out maneuver you.

Oh yeah, that reminds me I forgot to mention that quirk. RGI is best against higher speed things. Don't take on B-wings, Y-Wings, Kimo's. Anything else, you can pretty much keep up with or at least kill it in 2-3 good hits so you don't have to worry about circling. Y's can even fall somewhat in that category if you get a good gun on there. B's are probably the worst. You will end up flying circles around them.
But, all that being said, I stuck a level 8 engine in my RGI and, granted, it handle's like a B at slower speeds, but that's all it needs, since those are the ones that give me the biggest maneuvering issues. Overall, I'd never give up my RGI for PvE, especially since my Heavy is about to become my secondary PvP ship, now that I've got a level 10 engine and gun to stick in it. Scary, it'll still have room for a decent shield to hold off those NPCs.

I've done the entire of inquisition squadron in a heavy tie and not died once, I think it's a pretty decent all round PVE ship.

Gimme the Advanced over any squint or the heavy TIE any day. That extra gunpoing makes a BIG difference in PvE. And though it has smaller mass than either the RGI or Heavy TIE, you can make a perfect PvE ship nonetheless.

RGI for sure. The hitbox is so sall that no NPC can
hardly touch you and the weapon spread is great. Manouverability wise it is a dream and in fact has my favourite handling mods out of any ship in the game.

You can fly it w/o the badge, and this ship owns PvE. Slap a low mass lvl 10 weap, a protecto, and a lvl 6 engine and you've got the recipe for soloing the CPG gunboat duty. It's just that hard to hit, you can fly straight into the guns on a set of gunboats and will see little to no dmg done. I haven't flown the heavy tie much, but with only one hardpoint to work with, i prefer the spread the IGI has.
