You do not need to finish the quest, after Vadar gives you the ship you can fly it. However, I've seen conflicting reports on whether or not you can redeed it after you go rebel, so my advice is to get 4/x/x/x as an Imperial, generate the ship, then go back rebel.
A Tier 4 the final battle shouldn't be too hard at any rate, and Vadar gives a nice payout (especially if you leave the dark side and stay Imperial).

It's a less nice payout FP-wise if you're a Private doing the quest. You cap at 1000FP at that level, and you can get really shafted if you don't get a promotion before doing it.

i am a rebel ace pilot, heres my question......if i get the fp needed to go imperial, and get the eta 2 actis by doing the quest for it, do i need to finish the quest to be able to use it......and if so, do i have to finish the space quest as an imperial........or can i regrind rebel and finish it????
i got the FPs to go imp and completed the quest. Then went back to rebel and was able to fly it without grinding any imp pilot skills.

You need to be Imp Combatant on the ground. When you leave rebel, you drop all rebel pilot skills, so make sure you have a yatch ready to fly to get to Kashyyyyyyyyyk. Once there, do the quest, pretend to kill the rebels with blanks, then go see Barf Visor, get the JSF (it's still a nice ship Janu Hull, even if it's doesn't have 5mil mass
) give Vader a noogie, and then go back Rebel. make sure you get a bit of +ve rebel FP after doing the 1st rebel missions, or you have to go out and get some, before they will train you. After that, re-grind Rebel Pilot, and use the empires evil (but cool) ship to take out all those poor brainwashed Imps.
