On a semi-regular basis, I couldn't tell you exactly how often, I have to recalibrate my Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Joystick.
It only happens with JTL and is an infrequent occurrence. I could launch into space a dozen times and not have it happen and I could then launch into space and need to ALT-Tab to recalibrate. It only takes about one minute and I am back to the JTL and have no problems for a while.

Hmmmm what exactly is the reboot trick. Let me know please. I'd like to try anything I can before I consider taking it back...otherwise it's a great stick.

I have a Logitech 3d and I'm having calibration issues. I have a PC and Windows XP, I bring up the utility to check the alignment outside the game. Inside the game is a different story.
Can anyone break down the "Dead Zone" and "Sensitivity" for me? Are these the only two things than can effect Joystick calibration in game? Maybe I can juggle the two and fix it so I can Roll Right and Turn Right in my ship. Is there any other feature I should be looking at within the game to fix this problem.
Currently I can use Pitch fine, but roll and yaw I have reassigned to buttons on the joystick.
thanks,

You have a Logitech 3d. That's why you are having calibration issues. If you are pulling or rolling to one side consistently, then its likely not something you can change in game. My girlfriend's 3d Extreme Pro didn't last 2 days.
I have hard you can unplug them from the USB port and put it back in to get them going again correctly for a short time, but that's not much of a fix.
Best fix you can get is to take back the Logi joystick and get a better one. Thrustmaster or Saitek are what I'd recommend.
