Thread: Why I really love space pvp
But, i was really reminded why i pvp in space today. To all you overt fliers out there in both factions, i have nothing but respect for ya. Up in space, we let our flying do the talking.
Unlike this horse s**t:

EDIT: long story short, rebels outnumber imperials 20 to 1, and not one of them had the backbone to go overt. THey talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. Its kinda pathetic. At least in space, we dont have that kind of BS.

Whoa, up the game detail a bit lol.
funny screen of the stormie haha
But...but...in space I don't have my 31337 macros that do my fighting FOR me!
My precious ego could be damaged by someone who's *gasp* BETTER than me at something! I can't have that, my unquestioned superiority in this game is the only thing that keeps me from putting a gun in my mouth!
*I* know, I'll go on and make a thread about how Space PvP should be made like GROUND PvP, where fights between Jedi can go on for thirty-plus yawn-inducing minutes! Surely everyone will agree with me, since EVERYONE has to agree with a Jedi because we did a long quest...so that makes us automatically better than everyone else! I'm SUCH a genius!

Oh. My. GOD! Every pilot is an a**hole! Especially that "Kayl" guy. How DARE they not agree with my FS XP conversion idea...I mean, it's not like I'm the 57 millionth person to suggest it or anything! I mean, 30:1 is DEFINITELY fair.
And I can't believe people don't agree with me about one-hit PvPing being stupid! I mean, why can't it be like Jedi duels, where the first one to get sick of virtually slamming their fist in a door repeatedly loses? I mean...seriously. Everyone should listen to me, I'm an authority on EVERYTHING. I'm a JEDI.
/sarcasm...kinda.

At first I loved space PvP. I was hooked after my first kill and kept it up for some time while grinding out as much FP as I needed for pruchasing the schematics to make Rebel Faction Armor. It was after I started thinking about what I say that it lost its appeal. In my oppinion the one hit kill takes any sort of 'skill' out of space PvP. How can you make any since out of the fact that it takes less time to dispatch a Master PC Pilot than ittakes to kill a simple tier 3 NPC. I sort of agree with your assesment of ground PvP, but come on be serious. You sneaking up behind another pilot while he is out grinding out some FP isn't really a show case of skill. Space PvP should be a "dog fight". Two master level pilots should have the chance to work their skills and get the upperhand even if they get taken by surprise.
I'm sure I know what your thinking too: 'You wouldn't say that if you had won those PvP fights'. Well, I've only been killed twice by Imp pilots and one of those died by my blasters as his hit their mark. Oh and no those weren't my only PvP experiences. If you actually had to worry about the other guy turning the tables bacause he was better than you space PvP could be great and it really wouldn't take much to make this a reality.

.
the most important skill to learn in space pvp is situational awarness, seeing the other guy before he can get a chance to kill you. weapons have a range of 550m, target nearest enemy player has a range of almost 4000m. i have no issuse whatsoever with killing someone who is asleep at the wheel. i have no issue with someone killing me if i'm not paying attention. either way it's a learning experience, you learn more from your failures than your successes.
once you get past the situational awarness stage the fight moves onto the outmanuvering your opponent stage, ie the dogfight.

The skill is in avoiding a sneak attack and turning the tables on your attacker. Done it many times. Even in normal space while overt, usually to loads of "Wows!" from the guys i was helping on their mission.
Well, you see, in ground PvP it's like this:
You and your group of 8 people jump a single jedi of the opposite side. The jedi then puts on an avoid incap macro and proceeds to run around for 30 minutes. Your group eventually gets jumped by 30 jedi of the other side right next to the starport.
In Space, however, if you go one on one or two on two and your fight lasts for more than several minutes, you know you're fighting someone who's really got flying nailed down, and probably has some good equipment to back him up. If you're still going after 15 minutes, not only is your arm tired out, but you know that your opponent is really good, since obviosly niether of you can score a disabling hit to each other. And if you win a fight that lasted that long, that's some pretty big bragging rights right there, especially if the other pilot has a good reputation. And we of course don't have the bashing of each other in space...
Well, ok, the administration of the events on starsider argues a lot, but... we don't have much bashing of each other outside of that.
