Hello.
I just got ace on my Starsider toon in the pastfew days.
My toon there for the moment, will remain secret for I am a man of mystery and erm...popcorn.
Anyhow. I was talking to people, socialising and generally getting the lowdown on the pvp community, flying around deepspace...seeing it inhabited by more than 5 people =O and generally being impressed not only by the amount of pilots and organisation I so far have read about...but the attitude.
Seriously. If there was a holy grail forgeneric communal attitude for space pvpon this game..it'd be the Starsider folk.
Baring in mind I have been on Starsider on and off for only two weeks,my experiences there along with what I know about Bria (andas far as pvp in space goes there I know a lot about the community) brought me to some conclusions...or not conclusions..open ended conclusions? is that an oxy moron? am I a moron? I don't know..however....
Having a healthy pvp scene in space is not so much down to the indivual player soley, but the community itself.
A lot of pilots, from reading various posts wish for better pvp scense on different servers and a lot go along to Starsider...fair enough, I admit Starsider is great [plus it has the coolest server name
] but a lot of pilots have a good basis on other servers which aren't starsider and aren't so willing to move so this is what I suggest.
In order to get your server geared up for a decent pvp community and so everyone can be happy bunnies...or whatever happy animal you prefer.
1. Communicate.
Communication is key and you can communicate happily if you're rebel talking to an imperial pilot or visa versa without giving away tactics. Breaking the ice is half of it and getting to know your enemy and turning him/her into an off battle field friend is mandatory.
2. Drop the pride and the ego.
Drop the pride and the ego..or at least set it aside or lock it away and adopt humility. It was after embarressing myself quite horribly in front of a few imperial pilots that I learned..if you want respect and to be listened to...don't promote yourself too much. Think you're good..thats fine, but don't be in peoples faces about it unless you really are trying to be ridiculed.
3. If you're in a PA with a good amount of pilots in it or a squadron and you guys want better pvp in space...elect someone to be your representative to approach similar PAs/squadrons and then go talk to them, see if they know any other pilots and bring them together. YES..even approach your mortal enemies [whether it be Imperial or Alliance alligned] and set up a meeting...and or even better a forum to organise some events and rules if you want to.
4. Now here is where I'm really going off my own ideas I think...I'm not sure who the people are who organise all these events on Starsider whether it is a few people or the whole community but...
Out of these guilds/sqdrns etc. Decide on people who are friendly pilots, good organisers and possibly with good photoshop skills (for any websites
) who will act as community organisers an who will administrate these events.
5. Hold meetings for the whole community as well as your own squadrons. We all have an imagination..so use it. Think up scenarios and based on which faction 'won' the previous event, base the next event on the results of that. E.G. Say you organise an event in DS where the rebels have to kill the ISD and for some reason fail....Next time, the Empire could retalliate by attacking the Freedom station or somthing like that.
6. I know I kind of mentioned this before but...individual attitudes of pilots within the community.
PvP. Part of it is blowing up. Part of it is winning. Accept that, don't feel any hard feelings if someone kills you and equally as importantly don't be a bad winner by mocking the person you 'killed' and things should go a lot more smoothly.
To summarise...aye, I realise a lot of this has been said before and I'm just expanding on it, but I'd love for every server which wants a good pvp community to have a good pvp/space community and what I just typed, I hope everyone find useful.
Why do I want a pvp community on Bria which is good so badly? Well yes...I'd like more targets in space, but mainly...I want to see people enjoying themselves more. I genuinly empathise for pilots who would love JTLS a whole lot more, if they just got a bit more of a helping hand and from a Roleplay perspective (because I know you Imperial folk love to roleplay
), I'd like to see some kind of 'story' in space created by the players -for- the players. Nothing influential on the actual story like "hey lets kill a deathstar"..no, but just like attacks on rebel/imperial bases.
I just think it'd be fun.
[For any Bria guilds/squadrons regardess of faction who wish to get involved and put this 'dream' into fruition, get in touch with Leaph Chausew by email please and we'll set up some meetings and get this happening.]
