I think it would be this:

If you think your good, your not.
When you think you suck, you don't.

Of course, keeping this in mind, is saying "I suck" the same as saying "im good"? If thats the case, then you really will suck. But knowing THAT maybe you wont. *shrug*

Did the heavy X-wing end quest thinking: "I might be able to solo this" Result: death

Thought it all over, outfitted a ship specially for this mission. Went in thinking: "I'm pretty sure I'll make it this time" Result: Succes, 3 gunboats leftover, severely scratched and dented armor.

Helped a guildmate get the vaksai tonight. Thinking: "Let's smokethose gunboats!" Result: 2 gunboats dead and 2 extra waves of fighters killed that spawned after the gunboats. 3rd gunboat killed after 'vette warped out. Not a scratch on my ship.

PvP: "I hope I win this, don't want decay on my ship" equals you lose. "Lets give his sw some business!" makes for a much more interesting fight

So, back to Ducimus his post. Mindsetand ego is definately very important in space. If you think you're good, you suck, if you think you suck, you suck. You got to know and believe you're good to be good. But, as the bunny said, there's always a bigger fish.

Everyone is King of Space in the Eta-2, Isoloedboth in a Y-wing so I'm the Emperor of space

I'm good but not egotistical.

The first law of Space PvP is "whoever sees who first usually wins."

In space PvP, there is no such thing as paranoia. There really are people out there who want to get you.

I disagree Dumicus..in some ways I think. Maybe I'm agreeing by typign this. merf..don't know. I = tired.

It isn't as simple as that.

If you think you're good..you probably aren't. If you -know- you're good..then you probably are, but if you're arrogant enough to run around going "I am the BEST PILOT EVER MWAHAHA!" then sorry...but you're a bad pilot because noone likes a smart Alec.

I learned this the hard way admittedly

Being a good pvp pilot here is as much about attitude as it is raw skill and....almost as much as how well your ship is set up.
Most pilots I know [on bria at least] think they're good. The thing is..yes they are. I know hell of a lot of pilots with great raw flying skills but...the fact is, their ships don't cut it when it comes to a pvp ship setup so they die...a -lot- and its not due to bad flying..its due to bad setup.

So this fact of knowing they can do better combined with the lack of realisation that their pride and joy is actually useless for pvp [*sigh*..for me it was my X-wing..at the time anyway] makes them confused and angry.

An understandable reaction..I mean, from the high of becoming master pilot..to the absolute downright kick in the essentials of being killed by a...a...HUMAN =O its not nice....especially if the guy who killed you is being downright arrogant about it.
Not nice at all.

Here is where sadly..a lot of people give up and their attitude from then on is "pvp in space is all about whoever gets the first shot" blah blah blah.

But.

Some people...and indeed more people than ever atm, are realising this (probably because a lot of the regular pvp'ers are being nice and telling them) and are working towards better setup craft for pvp.
The improvement then..is well simply astonishing. I've seen pilots on the Imperial side who us Rebels tried to avoid at first...now run in fear due to a sudden turn of the tide...and its not because the loser has learned to fly better...its just because they can implement that skill they already had with equipment which responds better.

Fantastic.

But I'm not finishing rambling yet...

PvP at the end of the day...is down to the community as a whole when it comes to how much you enjoy it etc.
Starsider has the best space pvp scene. Why? Because they're organised. I looked at the various websites and..well its what I dream we had on Bria.
Don't get me wrong...on Bria, there are as many pilots as there are on Starsider if not more..I'm certain, but the organisation isn't there and the attitude isn't there.

PvP'ers come in three interesting, conflicting flavours.

Type A:The n00bs. - These people are split into two subcategories. "Pilots who really could be quite awesome with work" and.. "I may as well give up now because I have a bad attitude".
These pilots at least give pvp a go.

Type B:The "I like to PvP and I like to win...but winning isn't everything and I try to fight fairly" group. - This group...is my favourite group. I love this group because to me these are the best of the flippin' best. These pilots set up their ships well, with no exploited parts etc and they may think they're good, but at the same time, they don't mind being burned to atoms occasionally and enjoy pvp for pvp sake and the good of the community and if they die..they adapt. This is where I found most of my pvp has worke dout well. With cooperation from both Imperial and Rebel alligned players and friendly communication, the resulting pvp bloodshed is made so much more relaxed and fun while still maintaining that rush of the fight etc.

Type C:Lastly..the GCW owns you n00bz and I iz the best lol rofl OMG group. - Pilots who take their role in the GCW far too seriously and think they're far too valid. (thinking you're good is one thing...which is ok in my eyes, but being downright cocky and in everyone elses face about it is just unsporting). These pilots don't care how they go about pvp. The sole purpose in their lives is to KILL KILL KILL and yeh..they may have gone undefeated so far but...mainly its due to load killing etc and not listening to other players when they may have requested in a tell "hey i'm just FP farming, can we truce?"

I don't like this last group and not that I matter, but you get no respect from me and probably by 90% of the JTLS community who you obviously try to get the respect from by promoting yourself too much.

Players from Type B tend to help players from Type A and in a short amount of time a Type A player can become a Type B player. Type C players will never get along with a Type A player unless said Type A player openly worships the very space the Type C player flies on.

Type B players have been known to swing the attitudes of Type C players who in some cases are misguided and lost rather than arrogant and irreversably evil. Type A players. depending on individual innitiative may become a typ B or...C player depending on circumstances, frequency and obtaining of good loot, personal attitude..list goes on etc.

So in summary [and I hope this has made sense] it isn't that simple. Their are too many different types of pilot pvp'ing at any one time flying with different intentions and with different other contributing factors to make "if you think you're good , you're not and if you think you suck..you probably don't" by any stretch of the imagination..accurate.
And in light of this...for space pvp to get better..its down to a community as a whole. I know the type A, B , C player thing was a generalisation in terms but...I tink its pretty close to the truth.
