Hey guys,
I'm new to piloting and thought I'd take a look at the forums to get some hints... there's lot of great info here. Reading what everyone has to say has actually raised some MORE questions for me. I've tried to read around but I find a direct answer. As the title says, I'm new to JTL and I'm not so bright, so I'm sorry if these questions are pretty basic.
1. What do droids do for my ship and how can I install them? Do I need a new droid for each ship? How can I tell what a good one is. I'm totally confused by the robots.
2. I read the FAQ and it say there are factions within factions!?! I picked the smugglers alliance becasue it was the closest one from my starting point. I didn't even realize I'd joined a sub-faction until I read the FAQ. Is there any difference in the skills and abilities from one sub-faction to the next. If not, which subfaction (for Privateer) do you guys think has the most fun missions.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

1. Only certain ships accept Astromechs. For Freelance pilots you will need to buy a flight computer that is whatever level you are certified for in the last column of piloting skills. You'll need a droid interface installed with the quickest droid command timer you can find. I would highly suggest looking for any pre-programmed flight computers. Imperials, Rebels and Neutrals get their own set of special droid commands that they can add to their flight computers. While you don't need all of them at the lower levels you'll want to add the cap to shields one you get as a neutral pilot. To add that skill to your flight computer you'll need to open up your datapad, find your flight computer, click on it to bring up the menu radial and select the option to program it. Find cap to shields (whatever the name is) on the left then click on the >> button in the middle to add it. Close out the windows and go to the local starport and use the terminal to add the flight computer.
2. As for factions within factions I believe that is referring to the fact that RSF neutral pilots side with the Imperials (you shoot rebels) and Smuggler's Alliance is aligned with the rebels (you shoot imperials). You will eventually gain faction points for either imperial or rebel, enough points to actually join that faction on the ground.
As for which neutral squadron to join I've enjoyed Smuggler's Alliance. If you remember to do the Tatooine Space Station mission while you're in tier 2 you'll gain access to Jabba's Palace where you can see the slug himself, Bib Fortuna and Boba Fett. Most missions for any squadron are fairly similar with some having a few that are more difficult than others.
If I may ask, which server are you on?

Thanks for the info. I'll make sure I do the mission you mentioned. I play on Bria right now as Hambonne Legbonne.
Thanks

I should add that you will need to add the droid commands to your space toolbar when you first get into space after adding a flight computer/astromech. In space press ALT then click on the Abilities and Commands button on the toolbar that should be at the bottom right side of the screen. Click on the Astromech tab then drag the icons for the commands you want up on to your toolbar.
When you gain the next level of astromech/flight computer commands you'll need to do it again. At least I had to each time.
