Thread: Lodo Ektatu Space Mining Method

Obviously space mining in its current state isn't exactly the greatest thing since Jawa beer was invented but I thought I would share my techniques and ideas in an attempt to help alleviate the frustration to some extent.
My Ship:
M22-T Krayt
My Equipment:
2 Mark III Mining Lasers (1275-1487 w/ .36 refire)in weapon slot 1 and 3
1 Tractor Beam in slot 4 (the wingtip slot)
1 Large Cargo Hold (1550 capacity)
*NOTE*
With the current experiment bug with items created with only space resources the mining lasers are not being experimented fully.
I also like to run Weapon Overcharge 3 while mining. This makes you mine quicker as well as helps with your defense.

nother helpful thing to do is to is to go into your key configuration and find the option for toggling on and off the tractor beam. You must be out in space to find this option. Having the mining laser on is essential for my method to work.
The Method:
1.) First of all you must blow a large chunk off the main asteroid.
2.) Next bring yourself behind the asteroid chunk and fly with it in the direction it is going. Also have the asteroid targeted.
3.) Make sure you are going fast enough to where you will eventually overtake the asteroid.
4.) When you hit 50m from the asteroid fire your mining lasers. If you have the same setup as I do with overcharge 3 going it should blow in one to two shots.
5.) At 50m I more often than not collect all of the smaller chunks right as it blows up.
It doesn't always work but from my experience once I got a rythm down of doing this I was collecting much faster than any other way I had tried.
I hope this helps at least a little. I hope to get a method to mining with the Y-8 sometime in the near future.

Mine is very similar.
Using a Krayt, lvl8 Blaster and M3 mining laser on the two forward slots, tractor in wingtips
Get behind it just like you but I have match target speed mapped on my joystick, hit that so I'm about 100-60m behind it then blow it collect most of them instantly, same as you. I used to use follow target but that takes longer than doing it manually plus keeps you active so it's not so automated.
