I'm currently 3/3/3/2, in Black Epsilon squadron

and I've been told (Repeatedly) that I should get the rebel programs for my nav computer, so I can use things like shield shunt.

No one bothers to explain to me exactly how one does this?
Do you have someone of another faction open their droid/computer programming thing and take the chips out? what?
I'm confused, I don't understand the whole programming routine at all.

I just throw the programs in my droid and go.

Well, for one, check the FAQ in the stickies. There's a section on droid commands and a link to go read.

Not sure why people have told you to go get the Rebel programs. Even Rebel pilots don't use them. The standard load-out, once you get a flght comp that can fit them all, is something like:

  • Engine Overcharge 3 (Imperial)

  • Weapon Overcharge 3 (Imperial)

  • Reactor Overload 3 (Privateer)

  • Capacitor Overcharge 3 (Privateer)

  • Capacitor to Shield Shunt (Privateer)

Any pilot can use any command, as long as it fits into the flight comp/astromech. You can get hold of programs outside your faction/level by either buying the pre-programmed chips from a vendor, or buying unprogrammed droid command modules and asking another pilot to burn a program into them for you.

Once you have the burned chip in your inventory, you load it into your flight comp the same as your normal commands. It'll show up as a command you can program.

You can only use the chip once, but the command stays in that flight comp for as long as you leave it there. Can't transfer it, can't unload it, all you can do is delete it if you're done with it.

That help?

Tip: People program chips and put them on vendors. You can use the Galatic Vendor Search to find the chips you need.

Only catch is that people tend to drastically overprice those chips - they really shouldn't sell for 25-50k, which isn't uncommon on Starstrider/Ahazi/Bloodfin where I have pilots. A crate of chips will run you a few k, then politely find a pilot to program them. Tip them nicely, and you can leave happy.

I miss being able to find them on the bazaar for 6k.
