Thread: Lag in Space anyone?

This is very likely a video card issue.

My computer is an Alienware 3.2ghz, 1gig ram, GeForce 6800GT PCIExpress. I have ZERO lag or frame issues in space, regardless of zone or nebulas/effects.

My girlfriend is on an Alienware 2.8 ghz, 1gig ram, GeForce FT5200 and her screen chugs pretty bad all around.

We've pretty much determined that the only fix for it is going to be to upgrade her vid card.

When I entered deep Space the other day there was quite a bit of lag. However, that was properly the ISD was firing all its lasers at some b-wings, as there was no lag when I did not have it in site. Though the fireworks display of green lasers, and the accompanying sound was something else to behold, other then that I do not notice any consistent lag in space.

I recently decided to finsh Pilot that I started almost a year ago. Its been going well, minus these past couple of days. Many of the NPC ships are jumpy, meaning they jump from one end of the screen to the other within a matter of milliseconds. A-wings inparticular are about impossible to kill.

Its not my framerate, and its not my connection, I'm on Comcast cable w/ a good connection. The ground game doesn't lag for me at all. I know this sounds like a question that belongs in the Tech Support forums, but I was mainly wondering if any other pilots have been experiencing this and is there a way to fix it?

I had the same problem for the longest time. The problem would manifest itself on my desktop, and not my laptop which is inferior in every way. I tried swapping video cards, ran, NICs, hard drivesand a fresh OS install. Nothing worked.I finally started searching for issued with my chipset (nForce 2) and read that the problem is common with that chipset in particular. The solution was to turn off FSB and AGP spread spectrum in the BIOS. I have not had a problem since. (And this was happening constantly before)

ok this may not help everyone but I found this sorted my lag in space.

It was worse in neb clouds, but once I disable the spectrum spread (read thread for more info) it all went away.

Yeah I have a nice system and rarely get lag. That said I went to deep space was checking out the star destroyer whena corvette ran into it. All 100 weapons firing at once dropped my frame rate to a slide show. Previous to this I have everything turned all the way up and simple shadows (cant quite do volometric).

I haven't had a problem with lag except during late evening in kashyyyk space. It probably has alot to do with how many people are on your server. You can try reducing some of you graphics settings. Nebula effects inparticular.

It's really bad in nebulas. Try turning the nebula density slider all the way to the left, and see if that helps.
