A few very very basic tips I want to share (which I wish I knew when I started). I am only 3322 Storm Squadron so the expert pilots may know better but these are my feelings so far.

1. As soon as you possibly can, buy a Heavy TIE chassis. Forget Tie/In or Interceptors or Bombers. The Heavy Tie certification comes very early. That ship has a mass of 95k which means you have much more scope to equip it than with a Tie/In (40k) or an Interceptor (50k). It is also MUCH more useable (recation and maneuverability)than a Bomber.

2. Find a good friendly knowleagable shipwright as soon as you possibly can. Doesn't matter how long you spend in space a shipwright can reverse engineer much better components than you will ever loot. A simple example is that I was very very happy using an engine in my Tie/In for monthswith a top speed of 62 until I found my shipwright who stocked loads of the same level engines with a top speed of 85! Talk to your shipwright and tell him what you are doing. Offer him/her your space loot and you will be surprised what you will get back.

3. Choose to go up better equipment before any other level. Better ships runs a close second but trust me that it really isn't necessary if you have a Heavy Tie.

4. Don't worry about carryingmissiles. Save the weight for other equipment.

5. The most important item on your ship in my opinion is a fast engine, followed by the best shield you can fit in then a good weapon then a good capacitor. Make space for these.

6. Learn how to hyperspace. Hyperspacing to the same planetory sector your mission isin will keep your missions active and allow you some breathing space before carrying on the mission. Time how long it takes you to hyperspace from hitting the button so that you don't leave it too close to the wire.

7. You can often break off missions and head to the nearest friendly space station to get repairs before resuming. Make use of this. Waypoint the space stationbefore you start a mission in a new sector.

8. Before you ask for help make sure you do the mission soloa few times yourself. I know this is frustrating but when a Master pilot comes along to help 1. Youshouldn't expect him to do everything for you 2. You need to tell him what happens next and 3. You know exactly when to sit back or run for cover and let him do his thing.

just like to add...

droid chips are your friend. Cap overload especially if anything.. nothun like being able to just hold down the trigger and never run out of energy...Add that in with emergency weapons, and you can take down anything solo.

If you get in danger, use your cap-shield-shunt ready chip program to divert all that huge cap energy to replinish your shields.
