the title pretty much says it all. Is it possible to be an Imperial Ace but be non-aligned on the ground? And if so, what squadrons allow this?

Thanks all.

No.

You can only be Imp / Rebel in space if you're Imp / Rebel on the ground.
You can be a privateer no matter what ground faction you are.

Actually, i'm pretty sure that you can be a neutral on the ground and join a faction in space. This is how new players join a faction easily, from the 200fp gained from the first run of JTL missions.

Crixx, Xicrx and Crixxorian Darkmoon - Rebellion, Corsec and Imperial Ace Pilots respectively.

this is what i have heard, but do you then have to join the ground faction later on during your pilot training or can you go right the way up? I don't want to join the imps at all ever on the ground but i want an imp ace pilot...

If you mean the faction points you get from the ace missions, then yes, you get 600 fp total from the admiral of that faction when you ace. I used this to swing between Rebel and Imperial when I was getting all my pilot badges.

RSF get Imp FP.
SA get Rebel FP
CorSec get a choice.

The 30 kills give you 200 fp. the Vette gives 400 on return to the admiral.

I'm 99.9% certain you need the 200 faction to sign up first, or they tell you to go prove yourself, I can't believe that SOE would leave such an OBVIOUS shortcut into a faction.

The other thing is that you can go to Deep Space and side with a faction there without being factioned on the ground, but you would be a privateer still.

Also fairly certain that the stations you declare at don't talk to you unless you're factioned on the ground, which would prevent you from gaining faction in space.

BRB. gonna check this.

Actually, this used to be possible, but with the changes a few publishes back to the GCW (when combatant/sf/on leave came in), it was no longer possible. Only those who were neutral on the ground and rebel/imp in space before that publish are still able to do so. If they ever change pilot squadron/faction, then they go back to what the rest of us have available.

actually

one of my characters had 0 faction points and went imp pilot, instant imperial. but he wasn't even a private on the ground for rank. only cost 100 fp to gain private though, so it was half what it would have been to join to gain my rank title, but nothing to join the faction.

can't see a way to be a factional pilot without being that faction on the ground though... since like i said, it automatically makes you that faction.

When someone accepts to join the Rebel fleet, they will be rebel alligned even with 0 Rebel Factionpoints. I did that with on waba, and every Rebel alligned NPC turned purple for me.

if you join a Faction fleet then you join the ground forces aswell. you cannot be Neutral on land and Factioned in space.
You can only be factional supporter from the Privateer line Smuggler alliance (rebel) and RSF(imperial), which will send you up against the respective enemy Vette at the end.

all accounts cancled. im leaving this game

I'm going to check it with a new character when the servers come back up, it would make changing factions rather trivial.

This is correct.

If a new player starts the game and becomes an Imperial Pilot, the player automatically becomes an Imperial (symbol above your head, and other Imperials are purple to you) when he signs for that squadron.

Although you're in that faction, you still need 200 faction before you can become a Private. [Edit: just noticed a post above.. is it 100 now?]

Same goes for rebels. You have to be neutral, or of the same faction to join a faction squadron. If you're neutral, you automatically become a part of that faction.

Agree. It is still 200, btw. I have made a couple characters recently on other servers, and you must have at least 0 faction to join the fleet. You must have 200 to be a private in the ground faction.

Also, joining the space fleet automatically makes you a member of that faction on the ground. I am 100% positive about this. You cannot be neutral on the ground and factioned in space.

You can, as previously mentioned, go to Kessel or DS as a member of a faction, but you earn no FP that I was aware of when I did it.
