Thread: Why can't POB ships get a revamp?

They're cool to have, they're fun to fly in with a bunch of people, but when it all comes down to it, it's difficult to take down even Tier 1 ships in them.

I'd just like to see these things used a bit more. I like to go flying with friends and all, but constantly beating on tier 1 ships just isn't fun. Elite components help a bit, 3450+ F/B Shields with close to 14 recharge, and armor with just over 5k hitpoints a piece. But that doesn't help my gunners take down the ships flying around.

Personally, I think it would be cool if the POB ships had 2 gun batteries, each with 2 guns. One on the top, one on the bottom, with each battery having its own capacitor to draw from. As it is, the POB ships have no shortage of mass... mine has a full elite component loadout and hasn't even reached 50% of its mass capacity.

It would be cool too, to give the ships a little more versatility, if each battery could be operated by one or two people. I.e if you only had a crew of 3, each gunner in the top would control both guns together. It would also allow for larger group fun in space.

Just my $.02 on the matter...

I totally agree. I only recently mastered imp. pilot, and while the decimater is fun, it just can't 'track' faster ships. I'd even like to see the turrets locked forward if not in use, or 2 gun mounts for the pilot to use.

Oh, and a rear view mirror, it's so annoying piloting the ship, and not knowing who has left there station, so i can yell at them.

My $0.02 also.

The POB "Elite" equipment is a kind of POB Revamp, to my eyes.

Anyway, your gunners would likely be more effective if they are or were fans of First Person Shooters. Using the mouse is a tremendously simple method to line up targets with.

Beyond that, are you flying straight and level or are you attempting to somehow "dogfight" these enemy fighters?

In my PA, a handful of guys go out in a POB on a regular basis and in doing so they whack Tier 3's and 4's regularly. They even helped me out in the Nova when I was completing my Advanced X-Wing mission against the Corvette in Kashyyk space. With more then 4 people onboard the POB, they tend to take greater risks, since you can repair a POB while in the middle of combat.

Get a loadout of people like this;

One Pilot, one co-Pilot

Two Gunners

One Engineer to handle repairs one side of a standard POB. (Standard meaning Nova, Decimator and YT-1300)

One Engineer to handle repairs on the other side of a standard POB.

More engineers if they are available.

At least one, perhaps two Medics, who could also be performing dual-duty by acting as an Engineer or even Co-Pilot to raise falled comrades.

If you are in a Y-8, you might want one or two Engineers per Floor, since that ship has so much more area to cover.

Beyond that, you 'might' want one or two Interceptor type Starfighters; meaning an A-Wing, Grievous Fighter, JSF or similarly tricked out FAST starfighters to act as a buffer between the POB and mass amounts of enemy fighters. The POB would be acting the part of gun platform, the Starfighters would keep the enemy targets off the POB and even draw enemy fighters into duals within range of the POB's guns.

I know, it is more difficult said then done, but that doesn't change the fact that some players have been VERY effective in groups of 3 to 4 flying a POB, lasting for significant amounts of time in space combat.

***EDIT: Also, if you are going to be part of a member of a POB crew, the whole crew would best be served to be using some kind of voice chat software, in order to better and more quickly handle situations and almost EVERYONE should have a good smattering of the various repair kits on them.

A lot of the time we're just sitting still so the gunners have easy shots.

Nice post, btw, some good ideas in there Gonna have to try to get something big together!

Thank you.

With a POB, the pilot should only attempt to attack in the near beginning of a combat scenario, he/she should use the missiles to start something off, against Players (most of which don't use Countermeasures) one or two potent missiles might totally wipe out a fighter or two.

When the enemy closes, the Pilot should keep the POB level and advise the gunners of upcoming turns. When turns are happening, the gunners should face forward or face rear. This will fight off the vertigo feeling and also still provide some kind of decent defense against enemies the pilot is turning towards or enemies that are on the POBs rear end.

The Pilot should stay in regular contact with any supporting fighters, who should keep defense of the POB as the most important job they have. That means, hit an enemy fighter until it turns away and then attack the next one until it turns away. Doing this should keep the amount of fire the POB takes to a minimum.

If, for some reason the enemy turns off the POB and onto the starfighters, the starfighter pilot should coordinate with the POB to lead the enemy fighter into a concentrated arc of fire from the POB.

It's all easier said then done, but very possible if a good team is built.
