ok, I have jtl on my account but have very little flying , in fact one toon is a nov pilot no skill boxes and im not even sure i did a mission for the recruiter yet , the second is like tier 1 and one tier 2 box , both are imp , the farther along one i started in bestine , which i just read is supposed top be the hardest, with that toon i would like to do the inquisition one so i can land at the retreat , do i have to quit the squadron and resign from imp pilot or just go to kadaraa and sign up there? and secondly , the other toon i want to be able to land at jabba's palace which means i need to quit imp but will i also have to resign from ground imp to become a freelance pilot ? how does this work ? any help at all or advice would be much appreciated

You need to go to Theed (I think that's where the Imperial space coordinator is) and tell him you want to resign fromthe navy. After that, head to Kaadara and talk to the pilot trainer to join the Inquistion. You need to do the same with the other character, but head to Mos Eisley cantina instead and talk to the guy in the back room on the right to join the Smugglers Alliance. You don't have to drop your Imperial ground faction at all, unless you are planning on joining one of the Rebel squadrons.
If you need exact waypoints for the trainers and what not, the Pilot FAQ v3.0 has them listed.
Hope this helps.

You do have to quit the squadron. This will take you to zero pilot xp and zero pilot boxes. (Co-ordinator is just in front of Theed palace to do this).
and secondly , the other toon i want to be able to land at jabba's palace which means i need to quit imp but will i also have to resign from ground imp to become a freelance pilot ?
You will have to use the Theed co-ordinator to resign from pilot OR you can choose to resign from ground imp, in which case you will lose all faction pilot automatically.
However, you do NOT have to be civilian to be freelance so can just resign pilot then fly to Eisley cantina to start smuggler alliance.
But (getting complicated here) be aware that the final two missions will have you shooting down 30 imperial fighters and an imperial corvette and escort. All other missions you can shoot rebels or imps at your leisure, but those two missionsare rebel aligned.
how does this work ? any help at all or advice would be much appreciated
Any more Q please ask, cheers

minor addition to the two helpful posts above: If you wan't to land at Jabba's Palace you can also do so if you are a Master Bounty Hunter (without having any association with the Smuggler's Alliance). Jabba is happy to have bounty hunters land and wander around there

To clarify, all you need is novice smuggler or novice bh to land there without being a member of the smugglers alliance. But in order to gain access to the palace itself, you need to have either completed the themepark or get the palace permission form from the tat space station before you get 2222 pilot.Talk to the station and ask if he has work for you.

Another little detail, there are 3 Imps you can talk to to resign a squadron, and one is on the Capitol steps in Bestine.
