They really need to code in thruster wash into the corvettes to allow us to seperate the real master pilots from the wanna be's. The parking behind the vette tactic is a cop out and should be discouraged.

its my experience that only works for 1 or two components. when i did my ace mission i had to hit the components directly, not through the engines to reach the bridge, for example.

Got three words to answer that...

Proton Torpedoes duh!!!!

I really think it's still a cop out. The vette isn't really all that hard to kill just find out where it's semi blind spot is (there are certain areas around the vette where only one gun shoots at you).

the "park behind it" tacticis not the easy way to do it, mainly because you have to take out the gunboats first, need to use missiles on the vette, and if it manuvers on you while you are next to the engine, it will tear you a new one.

just take out the fighters, andhit gun 5 on the vette (the only one that shoots down). you can easily kill gun 5 in a single pass taking minmal damage (i jink while coming in and can blow it without taking one hit).

once gun 5 is down, you hang out below the vette and it cant shoot at you.just be carefull;if you misjudge your approach or exit on an attack run and end up above it, all 5 of the other turrets will be shooting at you.

now that the vette has a massive blindspot, fly about 1km in front of it and slightly below it (remember, below is important!!) and go stationary. if you possition yourself right, then when it comes into range you will have a perfect shot on the shield generators, you will be in the vette blindspot, and the gunboats line of sight will be blocked by the vette.

once you hit both shield generators, then hit your booster and get outta there, when the vette passes you the gunboats will eat you alive if you are still stationay.

then just come back in from below and behind, so that you are in the gunbaot blindspot, and nail the engines. boost out agian, and watch the gunboats fly off leaving the disabled vette to your mercy.

now you need to finish off guns 0-4. move to about 300m or so from the vette, and slowly creep up closer to its arc of fire until you just barely get a shot on the 2guns that are on one side of that group of 4. take them out, then repeat for the other side. after that, creep up a bit more to expose the top turret, and blow it up too.

at this point the vette is totaly harmless, guns 6 and 7 cant fire. just hit the reactor and the bridge for the win.

if you play your cards right, the hardest part is the fighters, which if you have gotten this far shouldnt be a problem for you. the vette might tag you once or twice during the run on gun5, but other than that it's weapons will be silent for the rest of the fight if you just stay out of their arc of fire.

I love peeling the potato. (tactic on taking out the vets guns).

My orignal point is though thruster wash should be put in so people don't take advantage of the "parking". This is espcially true for the vette missions for the new toys. Those vettes have no gun boat escorts.

It did wonders tactially in XVA...missles blew up in it...damaged fighters blew up in it...stupid pilots who sat in the wash blew up...

Well, I think it's a neat idea in terms of adding reality to the game... but if you're talking about the kessel vettes, the way the spin on a dime really discourages people from sitting behind it for too long anyway. Basically, anyone I know that can solo the vette never sit there.

However, I would like to see some master level missions (other than the reward ones) just for a challange. Good NPC fighter AI and more realistic physics would be cool.... Looking at the vette pirouette like that is just wrong! I would like it to see it do more realistic evasive manuvers like speed up and zig zag in a realistic manner for it's size
