Don't get me wrong... I love the current setup where you have to be a certain level to fly certain ships, and appreciate that you have to be of a particular faction to fly certain ships. That said, one potential use for prestige points (and I mean a WHOLE LOT of them) could be to purchase certifications for other ships.

This isn't necessarily strict canon within the movies (Han flying the Imp Shuttle notwithstanding), but it would certainly give masters something to work for. (This couldn't be the only reward for Prestige though as in that case it wouldn't be a choice.)

But if you wanted to restrict it even more... make it necessary to have at some point aquired the certification in the first place.

So a rebel 4333 gets thrown out on his ear for disorderly conduct, he takes his prize A-wing with him... but is too troubledby his downfallor whatever to use it. So he doctors his record a bit and goes to fly for Corsec eventually attaining the Ace title and a YT full of Prestige. He can then repurchase his A-wing certification and pull the sucker out of mothballs.

I'd have the cost be directly related to how high up the tier the ship in question is. So those reb's and (less so) imps complaining about not getting access to the YT could master Privateer, switch out, remaster rebel, head to deep space, head to deep space, head to deep space and eventually buy back the cert.

I'm sure people would complain about cross-cert'ing things from Rebel to Imperial so if needed to, just make that undoable. (Despite tons of X-wing novel info indicating its not remotely an issue really. In war you use what you can use. Period.) Personally I'd allow it since even in PVP the enemy is the guy who shows up as an enemy in your targeting cycle and radar.

Might also take some of theedge off Privateers who get tired of seeing other (NPC) Neutral pilots flying around in X-wings, A-wings... etc.
