To expand on that wonderful answer, I would have to say no, it's not normal. Typically, in space, I get a much lower ping then on the ground.

But, what would help is knowing what zones you typically are checking this in. I know my Kashyyyk ping can vary from 90 to 3000, depending on how busy it is, but my Deep Space ping is usually right around 100 regardless of how many people are out there (~15 is my current record on number of people in DS), at least until the ISD goes berserk.

I think the network status monitor lies anyway...

I mean, I find that too. On average, my ping seems to be about 125, however often on launching into spaceit'll jump up to 1000+ and well, at that ping I'd be expecting packet loss and to be not scoring hits on enemies whether they're player or npc. Turns out though that whenever this happens I don't notice any lag whatsoever really. I can still function as always /shrug. So yeh, I don't think that moniter is 100% accurate.

Leaph beat me to it - I don't think that little window is very accurate. I run another program in the background that lets me ping some friendly sites to check my internet - stays very stable, even to SOE world, while the in game window seems to get stuck on high numbers.

On the other hand, I've had nights of pure bumblebees where the monitor claimed the connection was near perfect.

The monitor DOES get stuck with the ping numbers, for some reason ... but until it does, I pay some attention to it. It at least tells me what sort of night it's likely to be.

Ok why would my ground ping be 160+ and when I go into space my ping jumps to 500+? Anyone else notice this?

I have all my graphics turned off or down as low as it can go. I have 1g ram. I am running on a high end computer (dont have stats on it). Is this just normal?
