I wen't for the x-wing, and now Im wishing I went for the 6-7 upgrades. Need better guns, need better capacitor, need better reactor.

The X Wing is tempting, but I have a lot of Mass available on the Y Wing longprobe still...so I really think i could pimp that thing out lol

It was all about the x-wing for me. The manuverability gained from trading up that school bus (y-wing) was far more advantageous than getting the more powerful components. This is something learned from playing x-wing and tie fighter on my old 386 years ago.. You could only a get a few shots on those tie advanceds... and every hit had to count because when you had him in your sights you had tohave the power.

Ships do not kill other ships weapons do. If your a CL40 you going to use CL20/CL30 weapons?

Only time I see to go with ships first is at 4-3-3-3 as 3-4-3-3 only gets you level 8 loot drop items (with the exception of 2 missle launchers) but to use the level 8 components you you need a lot more mass then most tier 3 and lower have.

My tier 4 BS heavy fighter with cert 7 components is 160/170k mass only tier 3 lower ship I could load that on is a tie bomber.

With all due respect, the combat rules that apply ground-side do not do so in space. JTL is far more twitch-basedso one must take agilityinto account . One can see this being a factor in class-based FPS games and other sims where one is given the option of trading sheer power for stealth or agility. However, for the purposes of the original question this argument is nearly moot---as tier three is purely mission based and one must only complete one extensive mission before one can certfor either the ship or the components.

The mostinteresting thing about this thread is the differencein the way gamers think coming from different gaming traditions. I may be incorrect, but I might venture to guess that the chap who posted before me is a RPGer, whereas, I come from a purelyfps background (SWG has converted me).
