ive been thinking about this alot recently and i think ive come up with a good idea to make it work better as a mining ship. this idea requires 2 changes. first off move the turrets to the sides of the ship. by making them left and right rather than upper and lower you increase the fireing arc to about what the other pob ships have. to man the turrets i thought of an interesting idea as well. there are 2 empty rooms on the lower deck. these could be used as turret controll rooms. just put a chair in each one that controls the turret on that side of the ship. maybe even put a booth around them for look and effect. the second part of the fix is altering the way the tractor beams work. as of right now they pull the little chuncks into your hold (and they dont always do a good job of that). but in the mission you get right after getting the tractor beam you use it to cyphon out the cargo from another ship. i say that this is how it should get the material out of the rock. instead of pulling the whole chunk in you extract the mats directly from it. once its out of mats the chunk is destroyed. also add an advaced tractor with very high mass that is able to extract from the initial chunk rather that the little ones. this would allow the y-8 to park in front of an asteroid and cut out the chuncks while the turrets use advanced tractors to extract the matterials.

also i would like to point out that the alteration to the tractors would benifit all miners not just those in the y-8. currently it is slower to use the tractor than it is to just laser them. this is because of the low effectiveness of the beam. several times ive had it fail to fully redirect the chunk and send it slingshotting past me. not to mention that the chuncks are pulled in at a very slow rate to begin with. the mass of the advanced should be high enough that only a poband possibly a bomber level ship could use it, and it should take a little longer to mine a chunk with the advanced but have identicle yeild as the standard tractor. this way the smaller fighters would still have to (and want to) blast the chunk apart to tractor in the goody. id love to see these ideas getimplemented so id like any inputanyone has.
