I'm a begining pilot and was wondering which of these engines is the better choice?
Engine 1: speed= 65.6
mass= 1973
Engine 2: speed= 72.0
mass= 5438
thank you.

the yaw pitch and roll stats are much more important than speed in combat, so post those and i can give you the answer you seek

Depends if you have the mass free or on what you would have to sacrifice, and yes, it depends on the pich, yaw, roll values as well.

ok.
engine 1 pyr = 43.8
eninge 2 pyr = 48.7
what i was also wondering is - does the extra mass on engine #2 negate it's higher speed?

i can see that those must be crafted, my suggestion would be to get a looted one, and have it REd, the speed is a little less, but the PYR is better. As for which one of those is better, it depends on what ship your flying, if you have tons of extra mass, then #2 by far.

i have plenty of room for extra weight cause i can only fly the y wing right now. i was just wondering if the mass effects performance or if it's only a matter of what you can fit on your ship.

if your only option is between those two engines, choose the engine number 2. It has higher PYR values and speed.
you said you were flying the y-wing, so i'm guessing you have plenty of mass to spare, so that's not an issue. mass does not effect handling, it only effect whether or not you can fit it in the ship or not (total mass of components must be less than the mass rating of the ship chassis).
for future reference, you want as *high* pitch, yaw, and roll stats as you can find, along with a sufficiently high speed. the speed isn't all that important once you start fighting, but the PYR values will be, especially pitch and yaw, and to a lesser extent, roll.
You'll notice as you loot engines that they may have higher PYR values than crafted. That's usually the case, which sucks for us Shipwrights, as we would *love* to make more viable engines. However, if you're only concerned with top speed, we do make quite excellent engines that have good top speed stats.
