ok i love taking down the rebel corvette and the gunboats, but recently i decided to go Freelance Ace from Imp Ace, and im loving Freelance right now but what i hate (i went smugglers alliance) is that im forced to kill the imperial corvette which is 10 times harder than the rebel one, and only because of the two imperial gunboats with their tailguns... i know i can stay 544m away and pick them off, but it takes way too long the vette isnt in kessel long enough for me to do taht with two gunboats. not to mention everyone that i know is imp ace.
lol ok venting done

It's not THAT much harder. Take out gun 5, then you can use the same blindspot underneath the Imperial gunboats to take them out.
I personally thought the agressors were more of a problem, although with today's RotW ships to do the mission in that's a non-issue.

Overall i agree, the vette itself isnt harder at all, hell i can solo the vette by itself. its just the imperial gunboats have a much reduced blind spot compared to the rebel gunboats because of their rear turret can rotate up and down rather than only side to side like the rebel counterpart.

They do still have the same blindspot underneath though, it's just a little smaller than the rebel gunboats do. Knocking out gun 5 on the vette will give you some breathing space. Then I like to go after the gunboats and their engines next.

To begin with (i only tryed once, last night before the reset) i didnt take advantage of the blind spot, i was trying to pick off gun 2 on the gunboats from the range blindspot, but looks like i have a new approach.

Once you have taken gun 5, try taking gun 4, then take the shields, as you normally would. Once the engine has gone, the GB's fly past, as you most probably well know, thus buying you time to deal with the Vette, without it hyping out. You bcan then destry the GB's at your leasure once you have the Vette in the bag.

I don't think it's ridiculous. Yes imperial gunboats are harder hitting than their rebel counterparts, but since they chase the vette at a sedate 128 (or something) speed, it's quite possible to park underneath them and kill their rear guns / engines before they move far enough to target you again.
If it takes you 30 minutes to kill the escort fighters and gunboat, I think you need to check that you're using overloads, and the best weapons you can fit on your ship.

Just keep in mind that the Rebel Corvette is easier because the gunboats are bugged. Venting over a master mission that's more difficult because all the NPCs are functioning properly is grounds for a pretty embarassing flame session.

And count your blessings that the gunboats don't give chase to you, but instead present themselves as utterly pointless time wasters to kill from 550m before wiping out the vette. Yeah, its cheesy, but my job is to finish the mission. If they make the gunboats give chase in the future... woo! That'll make for a fun and interesting time.

Maybe one of the gunboats should fly inverted, so their weapon arcs cover both directions... Now that'd make for a good fight!

Speaking of which, why don't gunboats chase players? Even the solo spawns fly friggin' straight and level while I pummel them, but they'll cartwheel and juke like a grand malepileptic when they're in the presence of enemy NPCs.

Do the Lord Cyssk mission in Kash. The GB's in that misison chase you bloody well everywhere, and they are seriously quick with it. Infact, all the ships in that mission chase you like no tomorrow

Yeah, the gunboats in the Heavy X-Wing quest were a bit more lively and aggressive, too. Definitely made the mission more interesting, even though it turns out that your help is kinda pointless, since the Corvette can take a horrendous pounding.
