Thread: Forgive my noobishness, but could someone help me with reverse engineering?

OK, I'll start off by explaining. For those of you who didn't participate in shooting me down in flames over my RGI topic, I am an Imperial Ace on the Valcyn server. I've been playing Star Wars flight sims since TIE Fighter (best star wars game EVER!!) and was trying to get into this one for some time. Unfortunately, I didn't know too much about the droid commandsand when someone finally told me about those, my ship broke (a victim of the CU), thus grounding me. Basically, I couldn't deal damage with my guns. No damage, no XP, no progression in pilot. Damn you, CU!!!

/cough Anyways, my dreams of once again soaring amongst the stars began to fade. I tried everything, redeeding the ship, replacing the weapons, replacing the ship itself, nothing seemed to work. However, about a week ago, someone finally helped me get back into the sky and since then my feet have barely touched the ground. I've been in deep space every night, I've taken down a score of rebels, gotten ejected violently a few times, but all the glory days of TIE Fighter are coming back to me. My saber is collecting dust, and I seem to only stop to offload the latest haul of loot and get back in the sky.

So with my enthusiasm for flying rediscovered, I figure I may as well have a nice ship to do it in. Now I'm no shipwright, so I know nothing of reverse engineering, save that it makes an item you have better.... I think.... Well, I'm all for better parts in my ship and I know a good shipwright, so what's the skinny? How's it done, what will I need to ask for/supply, give me any info at all.

Well........as far as the process goes, check out the Pilot Faq. As for what your looking for, its a matter of personal choice and/or flying style. I like to go with shield/engine/weapon as my priorities, so I look for the best stats on those components and fit whatever goes for the rest (save for the standard ~1000 cap energy/~40 regen capacitor with as low mass as possible)

If you're not sure, save the components with the best stat on each attribute and check the "hows this for an X" thread for comparison. Also check out spaceloot.com for averages, but youll want to shoot for well above average stuff.

I wrote a guide earlier this year that covers the basics and all the advanced topics I could think of. Kayl also wrote a really good guide to specific types and levels of space loot that end up being useful, if someone feels like linking it.

I did. It gave, at best, a vague description of reverse engineering, it's merits and it's ways. I at least know a little bit more after doing some digging around the shipwright forums.

Also worth checking out are www.spaceloot.com and Janann's RE Chart.

Reverse Engineering is a ShipWright Skill not a pilot skill. so if you want to "REN" then check out the ship wrights on your server. Most Shipwrights will REN parts for free in hopes of getting the FireSpray disks. Note all you got too do is match the Reverse Engineeriing level on the the part you want to "REN". Like it will say Reverse Engineering level 7, well you need 7 of the same type of part to get one. With all of the best stats of the parts.
