Thread: Cloaking Device

Now lets all be honest for a second, just thinking about the concept of it- its awsome. So have it be like this:
Say its a thing for novice box and then master box.
The Novice Box gets it, and when they activate it, it only lasts for 30 or so seconds, and you cant shoot;and then once you take it off, you have to wait 10 seconds or so for you to be allowed to shoot or launch missles. Then once you hit master, have it last for 45 seconds, still no shooting- but lessening the fireing delay time by half, so 5 seconds or so. Also have it have a really long recharge time if you like :-) tell me whatcha think guys, but no flaming please- dissagreeing fine.
Heh cool they got webdings

Oh hell no... I do not want to give jackhole pilots the chance to camp deep space entry points with spacebombs launched from ships that can't be responded to.
It just doesn't add anything worthwhile to the space game as a whole.

I know breaking continuity isn't too big a deal in this game, but it was mentioned in ESB that the Millenium Falcon was too small to have a cloaking device.
And it was further mentioned in the EU, where it was stated that cloaking devices were expensive, rare, and had massive drawbacks. Those being that the best one the Empire ever developed not only cloaked ships from detection, but made their sensors and sight worthless.

exactly most of you are thinking star trek not star wars cloaking, star wars is actually realistic in that target cloaked may not be seen detected (except visually by fact that it is a lack of light ie no stars in a patch of space) but it also cannot see or detect ANYTHING so in this type of game it'd only be a delay tactic and not worth implimenting imo

Invisible Epulsing Griefers come to mind... x.x
Worthless idea, sorry (you did say to be honest) , but "cloaking" shouldnt be implemented into the space game, and should not even have been implemented into the ground game. The day JSFs start popping out of no where 50m behind me is the day I permanently pull the engine out of my a-wing.

And if it was somehow made balanced in PvP, it would become worthless in PvE... or at best perform on par with IFF Scramble of the privateers.
I like the idea alot....but most here are right, it would present grifers with a space "i win" button.
In order for me to like cloaking device would be un-starwarsy as I'd want to use it like the klingons, uncloak, attack my target, and recloak before his wingmen have a clue as to what happened, rinse and repeat untill they're all dead.
That unfortunatly would not fit in this game. The kind of resrictions that would be needed to properly implement it and keep it as close to SW canon as possible(for this game anyway) would not be worth the trouble.

If E3 gets nerfed, I want this instead ![]()
J/K.
The shields (don't need protection if you are hiding) and weapons (discharge capacitor sincethe key here is NOT to engage) should be offline, resulting in no epulse energy. Just allow visual sight, as was confirmed to be available in one of the books ![]()
I am not saying it could be implemented, especially since all cannon suggests cloaking is impossible on so small a ship.
However, if you devs are reading this, take out EP3 and give me the shields down and cap discharged version of the cloak
I can watch my enemies movements, take notes of their superior skill and record their weaknesses. While this wouldn't be much of a PvE or PvP specific skill, actively at least, it might mix well with the independent, fringe element that is Freelancer.
