Thread: First duty mission in my Decimator

Tonight, I spent an hour or so doing duty missions in my decimator. We just killed the first boss when we decided to call it a night. This was the first time I had actively done any grinding-type of flying in my Decimator. This was the first time I had piloted a POB during sustained combat.

I took the duty missions out of the Rori station, because I heard they give Tier V targets. Luckily for me, the were only Tier III targets!

It was just two of us as the crew: me piloting and another ace on the top gun. He told me to keep the bogeys in his firearc, so that was my main flying objective. I offered to let him fly for a while, but he declined as he doesn't have much experience in POB combat and didn't want to blow up my ship. I guess we were both rookies to this gig.

For the most part, it was pretty easy... until we were flying against two Novas and a B-wing. They pounded us pretty hard. There wasn't any danger of getting killed, mind you, but they actually started hitting my armor! The second time we faced that combo, we took very little shield damage. I'm not sure if my flying improved or my gunner's shooting did.

The gunner said I flew pretty steady. I kept the throttle at around 50% during combat to make me more manuverable. But I was wondering if anyone else has stories/tips regarding flying one of the POBs with a crew of three or less.

Well, Ive flown my Nova in PvE combat a few times, but only with at least 2 gunners. You need 3 really, cause the gunners get to caught up sometimes to run programs. I guess my advice would be to park and take the other turret for a few seconds then hit the next wp and repeat. Who knows...these things aren't desgined with a crew of 2 in mind. At least till we get locked forward firing guns...

Done it very often, and up to Tier 3 enemies, just parking your ship and fire away with two gunners, is most easy...

My Nova's regular crew is 4. Me, ops/repair, 2 gunners. We take on the tier 5's in Kessel very well with that crew. Keep the shields shunted and run reactor overload 3 and cap overcharge 4, cap to shield 3. Have your gunners coordinate target subsystems so they are aiming at the same thing. Keep the enemy in range and fly steady so both guns can come to bear on 1 target. Good luck.

For Tier 3s or 4s, just park the ship. You need two gunners, with one having enough multitasking ability to capshunt once in a while.
