Thread: What do i do now in space?
I hear the T5 Gharg Gunboat duty is fun, but I have no first-hand experience due to a bug that's been around since the launch of that ruddy expansion :/

Dude, your nuts
but I never thought of trying to do that in an a-wing.... How many gunboats are there at the last leg of that?
First thing I tried to do was the adv. X-wing quest, and naturally, I TOLD THE FRECKING TRUTH ABOUT THE GHRAG!!!!
*Gets pills*
Pick up Shipwright and RE yourself some sweet stuff for that perfect ship?

Key points are hitbox, speed and damage over time.
You get five gunboats in the end and they -hurt-. I ended up very much on fire by the end of it.
Since the A-wing has one weapon slot only, it takes a lot of concentrated effort to kill these things. I ended up managing it in the end (I tried more times than I care to count. I kept running out of time most attempts) by leading the gunboats then trying to keep below them, turning around (avoiding fire as best as I could) and poured shots into there rear, following them until my shields were about to fizzle out. Then I'd boost away, again kiting them shield shunting and repeat. After much luck I got to the fifth wave with the five gunboats and ended up in an asteroid field by the Avatar platform. I buzzed around it a few times, sticking close and used it to cover myself from the other gunboats and gradually disabled them two by two. (I'd disable two, then finish them both off etc) until I was left with the last one. Now by this time I was still pretty much intact but the paranoyer of the mission ending and thus failing due to time running out was creeping into my mind (funny how time slows down when you're concentrating) so I just went at the thing relentlessly and got pretty inefficient with my shield shunts. I managed to let it take my chaff launcher offline even, but shortly after it was disabled and I blasted it into oblivion. Thats how pve should be..relentlessly challenging.
I pretty much worked it out that in an A-wing with a re'd lvl 8 reward blaster you have to be pouring firepower into them for 8/10 second durations at a time whilst avoiding as much damage to yourself as possible, allocating 20 seconds of recuperation time while you shunt and let your capacitor recharge sufficiently for you to take another pass, but due to the one weapon slot and CO4, the capacitor will recharge even as you make your next pass if you use WO3 (which for that mission I did). You repeat this process and try sticking to that routine more or less and you can do it without the misison timing out. As waves get harder, the time limit does get more generous.

Heh. try doing it in an M22 Krayt with a YPR of 59.

Well I would do, but I'm not Freelance. In fact, that'd be posisble in a krayt since you can have a gunner. Stick a lvl 10 re'd gun in the gunner position and lead the gunboats on from a range of 550metres (where they can't hit you but you can hit them). All the gunner has to do is face backwards while you fly forwards and pick them off. Easy as pie as long as you're quicker than them. Judging by the lower than par r,p,y I'm guessing you're suggesting a crafted engine which are usually built for speed.
In fact..might try that in a Y-wing. Halyn? ![]()
Also, I get thefeeling that you're saying that in a derogatory manner, implying that I only beat that mission due to theequipment I have. Well, if you'd care to try an A-wing vs that mission, a mission which I don't think many people have soloed let alone completed with a wingman (even when flying JSFs)then if you beat it, cool and self righteous oppinion accepted. I think you'll find that an A-wing, no matter how well set up it is, is still quite a challenging ship to use in general in this game whether it be pvp or pve. If that is the case, please end yourjudgement now as I can safely say, I know more than you. If not and if I've read that all wrong, no worries.
