If you havent already go visit your local shipwright and ask about the new engines....

Example:

Lvl7 crafted -

Speed 101

Y/P/R 62/62/58

something new maybe for you rocket jocks out there that like to go fast.

[Shhh - and you can replace a crafted engine alot easier than a sweet looted one]

Can you get 95 speed with 72/72/73 Stats? YPR..... if so I need to visit my Shipwright tonight.

Cert 8 common RE:

92 - 96 speed
72 - 76 PYR
24k~ish mass
1500~ish energy drain.

Crafted engines won't be viable until they can at least come close to those statistics.
Properly balanced, they should exceed on any one (set), at the cost of another -> with that *cost* statistic being selectable.

Until then... the only ship I will have carried by a crafted is my Decimator. (Lower PYR is good for gunners).

Visited my local SW last night, now my tie bomber handles about as well as my Tie interceptor and with double weapons and /eweapons or Overload Weapons i can 1-2 hit kill A-Wings
