Thread: Space Mining Stealth Nerf or Bug?

I went out space mining in my fighter tonight, and instead of the 5-6 large chunks that break off when I shoot the asteroid about 10 times, I'm getting one. I checked with other asteroids, one of the organometallic asteroids in Lokwasn't spawning ANY. Anyone else?

that organometallic asteroid in Lok space... is it close to or perhaps over the border of the spacezone?

No. I mean the asteroid itself did not produce chunks when I shot it. The others ones I tried were extremely stingy with mineral output.

Noticed the same, apparently any single asteroid can now only have a given number of chunks in the world. Quite likely intended, as spacezones "jampacked" with asteroid chunks were at least part of the extreme lagissues we saw in some zones.

If an asteroid does not spawn any chunks at all, blast it until it disappears (might take some more shots) and respawns, should be fine then again .

I checked the system, there were barely any chunks floating around. I would be shocked anyways, our server is practically dead in JTL. I've seen a max of 10 players in the Kashyyyk system even.

Barely any != none. You won't get more than two "active" chunks broken off from an asteroid from my observation (and fits yours too).

How do you find any that have floated off? That's my biggest headache is finding the stupid things that have floated too far away. Then it doesn't produce any more for me.

I've also had problems with the carbonaceous asteroids in Naboo space. They are right next to the edge of space and it seems chunks float off to the edge and I can't shoot them or tractor them in. Very frustrating.

if the "big" one doesn't produce the medium ones, blow it up, it spawns another, it will produce the medium ones, they produce the small ones

Yeah, it's definitely a hard hitting nerf... any time I find a highly effective mining technique, they nerf it.

It might be my fault, i guess... I'd just line up right so that when I shot the main asteroid, it would spawn the big chunks in my line of sight, which I would promptly shoot, and even get some smaller chunks. I'd fill up in a minute or two, but caused a lot of debris.

The only sad part, is that I never got lag. I guess it's because I have a good system, and can handle several thousand asteroid chunks... Oh, and did I mention the pretty fleet of space pirates that tried to scratch my shields?

Yes I noticed this last night. Thank the maker they did this. Flurry space was totally unplayable early in the week due to server-side lag (yes it's server side and for the most part had nothing to do with peoples systems).

You don't need to break off more then 1 chunk at a time to fill up a hold quickly. Just break off one chunk, fly up to 60m with your tractor beam already running then shoot the big chunk until it explodes into smaller chunks. If your tractor beam is on and you were flying directly behind the big chunk, it should suck up virtually all smaller chunks instantly before they fly anywhere. Any that escape will be close enough to tractor or shoot in a couple seconds.

Then head back to the big rock and repeat. This drastically reduces the time it takes to fill up a large hold (1550 units) due to the higher yield of a tractor beam, and will also eliminate most stray chunks that float through space.

Thankfully they reduced both the number of big chunks that break off at once, AND the lifespan of stray 'roids that get missed. They despawn before the server bogs down again.

Huge kudos to the devs for Saving Space As We Know It with this (as far as I can tell) undocumented fix. ("Fix Client Stability" might apply heh).

Blow them up? I shot at one of the POI asteroids in Corellia (no mediums were popping out of it)with a class 2 mining laser until the shooting effects made my eyes bleed, and there was no blowing up that sucker.
