Thread: Need faction opinions from the professionals!
I know many of you have tried the various piloting professions and thought I'd get your opinions prior to getting too far into freelance.
Thanks!

OK, I am a total noob, but isn't mass a good thing?
Mass is a good thing, but it's not the only thing.
Don't listen to Mr. Negative On Everything, all 3 factions have thier advantage/disadvantage, especially post-RotW.
Freelance *do*ships have advantages, namely, Mass and Blaster Hardpoints. Freelance has some of the most leaway in the game for putting damn near everything in your ship and PvEing. On the PvP side of things they were hosed until the Heavy Syck came along. The Heavy Syck is fast, very fast, small, and has enough mass to pack a punch. At the Master Level, the Krayt is a pretty good ship, but only has one Ord hardpoint, and is too big for PvP.
Imperial Ships are very short on Mass, but have some great YPR stats for the fast fighters. This means you amy not be packing the latest greatest gear all the time, and will have to select parts a little more carful, but with the addition of the Heavy TIE, that is pretty much over too, so you are in the same boat as freelance for weight until the end game. Imps do happen to have the best heavy ship for PvPing in. The Oppressor packs a whopping 3 ord slots, and turns the same as the Krayt and the FireChicken. Most of the "traditional" Imp ships focused on light and fast, but with RotW that is no longer neccisary, you can be heavy and fast too.
Reb ships I am not as familiar with so there is more speculation here. I have heard they get pretty good Mass, and of course the new Heavy Z95 has plenty and is very fast too, the rest of the ships are on the slower side but pack great hardpoints. The exception to this is the A-Wing, which is very fast, especially at top speeds, but quite light in the Mass department.
It all depends what you like, you like PvE only? Freelance is not a bad choice at all. You want to PvP just a bit? a heavy Syck might do the trick. You want to get into the GCW? Pick the side that is more to your flying style.
Daily annoyances / Amount of BS you have to tolerate:
Imperials have it easy.
Rebels have it harder.
Privateers have it made.
Ship outfitting:
Imperials have it harder
Rebels have it easier
Privateer has it easy.
Ship variety and flavor:
Rebels have more flavor and variety
Imperials have less flavor and variety
Privatter has alot of variety, but few logical choices.
Landing locations and logistics:
Imperials have a stronger presence
Rebels have a lessser presence.
Privateer no presence.
Teir 4 missions: (IE, part of your post ace content)
Rebels have it better
Imperials have a real crappy mission selection
privateer has an "ok" selection
FP grinding:
Rebels have it far better
Imperials have limited choices.
Privteer has it worse than everyone.

Thanks Alyxian for the very informed response. I think I'll stick freelance and hope some good smuggler content comes with the revamp (HA RIGHT!)
Rumor is that Spices will be changed to no craftable and will be gotten through missions. I just hope they give the option so you can do space or ground missions to get the spice and that it actually involves smuggling instead of just killing mobs or running around doing something mindless. Seems SOE would be missing out on some nice new content if they cant revamp smugglers to actually fly smuggler missions as well as bring the faction scans/blockades to space to liven things up. Not holding my breath thought lol
....
One thing to note, Smuggler's Alliance leans toward the rebel side and when you do the first Master quest you will earn rebel faction. When you're flying those final missions you'll also run into the chance of hitting a rebel ship while you try to take out imperials. If you hit a rebel ship it will decide that you are a target and once you kill whatever imperial your shooting at it will go after you. The first master mission can be a real challenge to not hit one of the many rebel ships flying into your attack path.
