Help me out here.....

....was doing the Kessel Imperial Corvette for the first time last night, and had equipped my ship with a space bomb launcher, since I was a neutral, and figured I could take out turret 5 in one shot, run like heck, and then deal with the fighters.

I approached to within 100m of turret 5, waited for lock, got it, and launched, and began my mad sprint away from the 'vette. To my surprise, no chase, no shoooting, nothing...I missed ?!?! So, I ran thru it two more times, and seeming missed all three times.

I normally use proton III's, and had good luck with them on the Kashyyyk Corvette, but I blew it last night. ( The 1200 wounds are proof of that....dont ask....it's what happens when you are too pigheaded to admit you either need some help, or the carefully formulated plan you spent hours thinking about was a miserable failure. )

Soon as I get the wounds healed up, and maybe get someone to help me out, I'll retry it, but anyhow, what am I missing with the space bombs ? What's the best way to use them, and how ?

Thanks...

I've had a couple Space Bomb II's vanish on me, though mine were against that medium cruiser that's around the Kashyyyk station. I have had the Devil's own time getting even a lock on against the Kessel Corvette for some reason.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you what was going wrong here.

I will say this though, if you are within 100m of Turret 5, open up with all your guns and you should kill the turrent long before it does enough damage to be a real threat, especially if you are in a ship with more than 1 gun. If you are going space bombs, use them from max range and run, which is their best usage.

Okay...appreciate the advice !

I suppose it's one of the few advantages of being Smuggler's Alliance that I can get that close, without aggro, but blowing 3 space bombs like that floored me. Next time I suppose I will go the blaster route....I just figured get the bomb off, take off below the vette to get away, so it cant shoot me, and I get a little head start on the fighters....

Perhaps the safest thing for me to do, is STOP THINKING, and just follow the iwalk thruto a T.

Next time when you start running, hit NUM on your keyboard. You'll keep going full throttle in the direction but you'll get a view of the Corvette too, you should be able to see your spacebomb and be able to tell what happens.

Sunday night I whacked the vette with 4 spacebombs, and they all landed no problem...

That's really strange yours just "poofed" like that.

I've actually been teaching myself to fly in target view mode. In a POB, it helps me guide the ship in "orbit" around a target and for fighters, it helps get a bearing on what I'm evading.

I have no problem with them, but at 100meters shouldn't you be toast by then? I pulled up in the engines of the vette (blind spot) and launched, success... mostly I do this with the Kashyyk vette mission.

Okay...evidently I had some "issues" then last night...

I did also have some proton's poof on me as well,I think just 2, but the Space Bombs were definitely 0 for 3.

As far as being that close...I'm Smugglers Alliance, everything con's blue to me, until I pull the trigger on something. Per the walk-thru's, I thought I'd try to reverse the steps, since with a space bomb, I could eliminate turret 5 with my lead attack, and then head out fast, and far from under the 'vette, so it would not attack me, and I could deal with the fighters.

I'll have to num lock...although I'm using a joystick with a little slider, I'd call it, for speed, so I can set it right, and then change perspectives if I have to....although I prefer first person.

I suppose for next run, I'll just stay max distance with space bombs, or deal with the fighters first, then worry about turret 5.

Hehe, and all this was to really ask how space bombs functioned ! To think, they pretty much are supposed to function the way I thought, even if they did'nt in my case !
