Anyone know what a price for one would be on your server?
I saw one for sale @ 9mil credits and that seemed just a little pricy to me..

i don't know what server yer on, but on intrepid we're looking at an average of 7mil. i've seen em for 12mil, seen em for 6mil. but if you take into account how difficult it is to build a firespray, a high price is expected, and somewhat acceptable.

nope thats about average i seen them go for 5mil and up
what i have understood is its very very very hard to get the schematic for them and its a limited use schematic's at that. The only way to get the schematic is to re parts.

As an MSW, (selling firesprays I might add), let me break it down a bit:
Reverse engineering Components is the only way to get the schematic fragments.
There is an approximate 0.25 to 0.5 % chance of getting a schematic fragment (of which there are 8 unique) from any given RE job.
Ideally that works out to 1 piece per 300 Reverse Engineering jobs average.
There are 8 unique, and you will most likely get at least 2 doubles.
let's say Ten drops before you can build a schematic then.
That's on average 3,000 reverse engineering jobs to get 1 firespray schematic.
The uses on the schem are random 3 to 6.
If you bought half the components you needed for these RE jobs at 1k per cert lvl , (let's average it to level 4 parts), that's
1500 x 4 x 4000 = 24 million.
You can resell all your RE jobs, again average lvl 4, to the chassis dealer:
3000 x 4000 = 12 million.
24m - 12m = 12million cost still.
Divide that by 3, since that's the most common schematic drop count
4 millioin per Firespray
Add to that 450,000 for materials cost at average 5cpu (nobody wants a grind-quality FireSpray!), we're up to 4,450,000 cost on the FireSpray.
Selling for 5.5 mill is only netting the MSW who buys his components
1.05 million
Minus the cost of all those RE tools
1 million.
Considering the amount of trouble he went through, a pittance.
That being said, not everyone buys at 1k per lvl, some pay more. Others still don't need to buy at all.
Some of the RE results can be sold for Cert lvl Squared (the net cost of the item), so nothing is lost on at least a portion of those jobs.
At any rate I hope that brings things into perspective a bit.
Some servers the price is higher on average, some it's lower, but anyone asking under 5mill... my suggestion is buy it and resell it for a profit.
Someone asking more than 7 probably bought a lot of components for 1.5-2k per cert level, which we as shipwrights would not be forced to do if pilots didn't dump everything they could at the Chassis Dealer.

...except that we have to do that so that we can afford to buy a Firespray in the first place hehe!

They tend to go for about 7-8M on Starsider as well. Prices have held steady there since roughly a month after JTL came out and I expect them to stay around that range for the reasons Viduus summed up admirably.

Find a MSW's vendor and offer them up to him for the same price and I guarantee he/she will buy them.

Anyone ever try to make a deal with a MSW? Like giving them all your looted compnents so they can RE for free, and even re-sell at 100% profit, then you get the first KSE off the line when they make it? Or maybe even for the cost of the resources.
I know it'd be tough to give up that 100k in credits every time you land, but think of it as a Firespray on layaway...

I wouldn't take one for free I'm afraid.
1. They're butt ugly. Kind of remind me of a space-going cockroach that lost all it's legs.
2. They're a HUGE target. You could fly against one blindfolded and still manage to hit it.

I have a deal of some nature with my guildies, they give me their loot, and I give them the exceptional RE's I do, the rest is mine to recover costs.
Whatever gets sold to the chassis dealer is NOT 100% profit, selling a cert 7 engine for example would net you 49,000 creds un-RE'd, but only gets you 7k after RE, so that is to be considered a 42,000 credit LOSS, not profit. (even though the items were given, the worth pre-RE must be considered.)
As for FireSprays, one or 2 off each schem I make will go into the guild should someone choose to take it, for a much lower price, if they've been offering me their loot at a steady rate.

Sorry for the mis-communincae in my original post, but it is 100% profit for the shipwright either way - the 49k loss is incurred by the supplier as a down payment on the KSE. Since the overhead (cost of the components to buy outright) for the SW is zero, and the parts are being supplied for the purpose of RE'ing, the loss of profit from possible resale should not be considered. The SW is losing 42k per RE but gets in return a 1:whatever shot at the KSE schem, equal to 1/8th( (Total sale price) * 5(average # of KSE per schem(6) - 1 for parts supplier) - (cost of material)) Not sure how it would be a loss even if it was considered part of the equation, which IMO it shouldn't.

Alright, the cost of the RE tools is covered by the sale if the items, in either case the shipwright makes very little.
