I well, since they have hacked group sizes down to nothingness, can you still carry more than 8 people into space with you?

It looks like the invite function is proximity-based, not group-based ... I think.

It depends on the Ship. True POBs are proximity based, and you are allowed to bring up to 30 (up from 20) people. However only people actually grouped with you can man ship stations. Multiseaters require grouping and can take as many as the ship holds (2-3)

Yes you can. Invite is not group based, and have some beer and pie from a fellow smuggler.
