Thread: y-8 help needed!!

i cant get my mining laser to work on my y-8... trying to get it in the pilots position but when its there, it doesn't do damage or blow off asteroid chunks!

anyone know if there is a way around this?

if it helps, i got my y-8 within a week of RoTW going live,, and its been in my datapad ever since

I suggest you redeed your Y-8. The first time I tried my Y-8, it wouldn't mine. I deeded it and put it in the bank. A month before publish 24 I generated it again and tried it out. It worked fine. I have been using it ever since.

Oh, and make sure a pilot who owns ROTW is sitting in the pilot's chair.

will do, i'll let u know how i get on.. i myself was in the seat shooting the mining laser from the pilot seat.... but gimmeh 20 mins or so will get back to ya

now i cant fkin test it, bcoz agro station has eaten my y-8!!!! bloody terminal bugged :@

ok now that agro was fixed i redeeded ship... put my gear back in.... but still my mining laser is not blowing off chunks

Hi there!


I had the same problem with my y-8. Re-deeding will not fix the problem. There's another thread floating around this forum where others (including myself) have reported this same problem. I could pound away on asteroids with a Mark 3 mining laser and not only would no chunks come off, but the laser would not cause any damage at all to asteroids. Apparently,a CSR aknowledged some players have a "coding problem" that prevents them from mining. This explanation never made any sense to me but I seemed to be one of the affected--and not just my y-8. I put the laser into other POB ships without any success at all. Very bizarre since I used that same mining laser to complete the Y8 quest.


Now the good news. My problem is now resolved. I bought myself a small y-8 cargo hold and now I can mine again in any POB ship. I don't know if installing a small Y-8 cargo hold fixed the issue, or if some other change occurred, but the coincidence is there.


Don't forget y-8's have their own cargo holds--if you just got your y-8, installed the a mining laser and jumped into space to see how it works (without a cargo hold) like I did, you may have identified your problem. Very strange that it would affect other POB's, but who knows...

I had been using my Y-8 after Publish 24 came out (I've had it for a long time, however), and I had been using the overload commands with it. Last night, I decided to try flying it without using the overload commands, because I wanted to get started mining right away. The mining laser was in the Weapon #2 slot, and was not using any capacitor energy, or doing any damage to asteroids or enemy ships which were attacking me (although every now and then, it would get a shot off). I landed (in Bestine, and almost got killed by a Spider Clan Sentry), emptied out the ship, re-deeded it, replaced my equipment, and took off. The mining laser was still not working right, so I landed again, loaded up a flight computer, ran reactor overload 3, capacitor overload 3, engine overload 3and weapons overload 3. After that, the mining laser worked fine, and I had no other problems.

My suggestion, then, is to try using various overload commands and see what effect that has on your mining ability.

alot of minor bugs can be worked around by putting troubled item in bank and relogging so it would require a redeed if a chassis

Just some further evidence. I just got the Y-8 today and tried mining with a friend. First time up, I activated engine, cap, and weapons overload. The mining laser worked fine. I landed, took off again and attempted to mine. The mining laser did not do any damage to the asteroid. I activated the droid programs again, and the mining laser began to work.

I have ran into the same mining prob of my pilot laser not doing damage, i tried switching the lasers around with three differant mining lasers. Then figuring that maybe it was because i was along brought a friend up they moved into my top turret which i had the tractor beam in and a strange thing happend they fired once, the thing couldn't turn off it was firing a invisable beam forward and a visable beam down through the ship infront of the elevator. To top it off the pilot gun still didn't work and i have been using the front turrets to mine very slowly.



I haven't tried that redeed thing yet, will next time i log on. However has anyone else seen the tractor beam fire through the ship too?

Had the same issue. Please make sure your not "trying" to mine solo in any other turret then the pilots chair, or it will not work, period. When I first got it I had this problem. get a FC v.6 flight computer and try loading weapons overload 3 and cap overload 3 droid commands. worked for me after the reactor, capper, and weapon were buffed.

i'll try redeeding it and sticking it my bank and logging for a while... other than this i think i've tried everything

really wanna mine in this since i CBA landing every 5 mins to drop off cargo :@

I tried the banking thing with no avail. I still have the same prob, i asked a couple people if they could see my mining laser go off when i fired they said they couldn't see it firing, I have also noticed that firing my pilot gun does not drain my capacitor when i have this bug.


I have so far switched out all my guns messed with which slots they go in, next i'll try swith out my small y-8 cargo hold for a bigger one. Not sure if it might be my cargo hold like the other guys. anyway I'll keep fiddlign with things till i find a answer.
