I'm currently on Dathomir: Science Outpost, and I'm particularly stuck on one section of the game. I've tried the "Kidnap the Imperial Security Officer" mission a few times, and although I died every time I was gaining some good XP. Now I've got enough to level up another box, but since I haven't completed the mission, my trainer won't level me up. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be happening or not, since the mission is damned hard without the new certs.
I guess I'm just wondering if there's either:
A.) Another way to level up
B.) An easy way to beat the mission
or
C.) The mission is bugged.
I hardly believe the mission is bugged since so many folks are well past this mission. I guess I just need some help. It would be appreciated. Thanks!

Please describe the mission in detail, and tell us what's killing you. There are 2 other Rebel squads all with different missions at that point, so even though someone who hasn't done it can offer sound tactical advice, we need some info on what's hanging you up.

It's been a while since I did this mission, however the thought occurred that you could try to outrun them. Your WP is still 2K away. Throw in some overloads (Cap, engine, reactor) and a cap-shield shunt.
When you get to the nova, (again, dredging from memory) you'll have more incomming. When I did this, I disabled a couple, then docked while still under fire. some quick shield management helped, but I think I went to eshields, finished the dock, then went after the attacking ties. (Mission turns into a protective escort at this point. Protect the Nova 'till it jumps.)
s'bout as much of that mission as I recall.
Some quick tips:
Don't be loyal to a target. If you start taking fire from the rear, break off and evade, go after the rear attacker.
Disables are faster. It takes half the time to disable a ship than destroy it. I always select engines, 'cause as you start to damage them their performance degrades considerably. Leave 'em hanging dead in space and move on to your next target or WP.
These tips and many others in the links in my sig.

I call these mission segments a Run and Gun, and the prove to be one of the toughest for up and coming pilots, for a few simple reasons. CNevyn's post covers most of what you need to do, but here's my strategy.
The waves are designed to come fairly quickly, and if you get distracted from your goal to handle the fighters in a traditional fashion, you will be swamped exactly as you describe. Your goal becomes, Keep Your Eyes on the Prize. Don't lose track of your waypoint, and make progress toward it whenever you can. Get a few shots in, and when the foes begin to loop and charge, you break and run and get a bit closer to home. When they catch up and begin to shoot again, repeat. Next, also disable engines and move on. This is much quicker, as was said, and in this mission profile, has the added advantage of giving you time to run for home. Don't even bother finishing them off, since the next wave is triggered when there are 1-2 foes left. Leave them in space and boogie to your goal.
Now, without a doubt, someone will read this thread and happily tell you to simply hyper to another part of the system and then fly to your waypoint. I am condemning myself to a 1star by saying what I say next (I always get 1starred for saying this). Taking advantage of the AI by hypering is a cheese move, and won't improve your ability as a pilot by one ounce. I won't even dignify it with the word 'tactic' These missions are beatable and far more satisfying when you don't resort to cheese, and I hope they fix the loophole that allows this to work. Lightweights hyper, pilots win.

Hey there, It sounds like you are doing the missions for Crimson Phoenix. I had a few problems to start the tier 3 missions myself. First what ship are you flying? Here is what worked for me. I outfitted a Y-wing LP with some good parts (ie high damage weapons, and fast recharging shield/cap). As for my engine, went for high manuver as i didn't spend much time at full thottle. which brings me to the tactics I used. First I read the K.I.S.S pilot post mentioned above (great posts) from this I learned the best throttle position for my LP (about .5-.7). I also varied the throttle through the turns (ie, accel out of the turns) this brought better stability to my gun sights as i turned in on a tie. Go for the dissable when possible. This helped me alot. For the part where the ties jump in on the way to meet the shuttle to transfer info, I went right for the waypoint. I used the IFF scramble as I docked and the ties stopped shooting long enough for me to complet the transfer and get back up to speed. The rest was as they said above, don't get fixated on one target. You will be flying in a pattern right into the path of the other ties and soon every where you turn there will be 1-2 behind you all the time. Keep an eye on you radar and get ready to switch targets.
Well thats my 2 cents. I was able to complete the first 3 missions of tier 3 following these basic principles. I am going to start the last one soon. Good luck and may the force be with you and junk.

Here's a much simpler way. Once you get to the part where you're getting attackedthousands of meters fromyour next waypoint, fight until you get the second spawn to show up. Hit IFF and run for your waypoint with everything you've got. As long as you manage a 1000 meter lead before they get wise to your deception, they shouldn't follow you. That trick has saved me in at least three missions.

Thanks to everyone for the tips... a lot of good ideas that I've never tried. I'm quite fond of my IFF Scramble, so I think I'll try scrambling them when I get real close, and burst for the waypoint ASAP. I've actually gotten to the docking point at the destination waypoint, but I've always gotten killed at that point (while docking). I also need to have the TIEs shoot the Shuttle that I'm docking with so it will return fire on them. I have class from 7:00 - 10:00 CST, so I'll let all you guys know how it went for me.
Again, thanks for the help y'all!

Thanks for replying... okay, so here's how it goes:
Basically I have to disable a Imperial Shuttle, capture it, and escort it until it jumps to lightspeedThis much is no problem. Then i have to proceed to a waypoint and dock with what Iassume is the same Imperial Shuttle that I just captured (back from wherever it was).Still, no problem.THEN after I dock with the shuttle, I have to drop off the info that was transfered to me via the /dock to another waypoint about 4k away. Halfway there I get jumped by three Tier 3 TIE Fighters. Once I start killing them, they multiply (obviously by threes). I get a new wave each TIE I kill. At the peak I'm up to about 10 TIEs (Fighters and Interceptors) and I'm simply overwhelmed. I'm constantly getting killed, and what's worse, the Dathomir Space Station only fixes 75% of my damage! I'm about 1500-2000 away from my waypoint when I get into the thick of the TIEs. How would you go about this mission?
I'm feeling that the only way is to upgrade... but I can't without the next level up. The level up I CAN'T GET until I complete this mission, apparently.
Some strategies would help me greatly.

seems I made it here too late to help before you tried again, but if you havent gotten it yet, I have one thing to add.
Do what has been suggested, fire a few pot shots at a target, and continue to move to your waypoint. When you get to your wp, and the shuttle is there, that is the time to IFF scramble. This buys you enough to time to dock, then you gotta kill TIEs and escort the ship. Like was said above, on the way to the shuttle when you kill 1 or 2 of the TIE's 3 more will spawn, and this always happens, so the trick is NOT to kill them till after docking. If IFF scramble does not give you enough time to dock, then your next bet is to use Eshields at the same point. I flew Havoc squadron and had a very similar mission at tier 3, that is how I did it..with Eshields, not IFF, but my Eshields outlasted the time it took to dock and I got quite a few TIE's on me and the ship I had to escort before I could shoot again, so IFF may be the better way.
In these "run and gun" missions, always remember, exp IS NOT your goal, finishing the mission is.

I Had this exact mission yesterday, so you must also be part of Crimson squadron. It was a pain, I must have failed it 20 times. Then my friends just go there Ace's Certs and a few cool ships so I had them help me out. They were in a POB ship (I forget exactly which one.....but three of them were firin guns and one was piloting) They helped me. We did it the 'hard' way. When we got to the Ship the pilot would more or less stop and his gunners would shoot everything that came in range, while I flew around and trying to get would I could. Then we got the One ship disabled and the droid hypered out I got a new way point. we flew to the new way point. As soon as the first wave approaced, my friends stopped their ship, and I lured in the wing of TIEs....once they were down I flew closer to the WP and got the second wing of TIEs...rinse and repeat until the third way was down...met with a REBEL flying a big ship docked with him...got the info and a new WP.....as we flew close to that WP has 3 waves of TIEs pretty much all at once.....so my friends stopped their ship and I stayed close to their ship and we tried to take em out as fast as possilbe.....and as soon as it quite giving me missions I quickly went to the space station and landed at the science outpost and the scientist let me train....now he gives me another missions....but yet again I am capped in space mission XP, able to learn a skill but it won't teach me one until I pass the next set of missions...argh...LOL...
But I liked the advice everyone had to say...seems a easier way to do it.....lol....I also use IFF scrambe but the time that it is in effect for varies....same with eshield. BTW, the first skill I choose to take was to use equipment 6 and 7 vs getting the x wing cert first...and it changed the way my Y wing LP looks....
