Thread: Decay from level 3 and below Overloads?

I have heard conflicting reports on this, the common knoledge here seems to be that level 3 overloads do not cause decay but I have heard a few accounts of items being overloaded to death...

Anyway, if I only run the level 3 programs once and only once per launch and repair at the end of the flight(is it better to repair at the begining?) are my parts safe, or does it cause even 1/100th of a point of decay (which potentaly could add up)? In which case I would only overload when I intend to engage in combat.

I appreciate your thoughts and opservations.

Play the game or don't it is what it is and will never be what it was for better or worse. I intend to play the game as long as it is fun, that does not make me a fan boy of brown noser. I know the game has it's flaws, but it serves no purpose to dwell in the past.

does happen occasionally since I think it's reactor and capacitor take 12 of armor and decay starts at 11

overload 3s do not cause decay because they only cause a small amount of damage. as long as you don't take damage to the overloaded parts you will be decay free. It would be best to repair before fighting but I have only heard one person talk about repairing in the same system that you launch in without resetting overloads and as far as I know is unverified. Overload 4s on the other hand cause enough damage to the component to cause decay unless repaired via DS or the 25/25/50/full method which I have never tried.

Well that's certianly the way to do it. 30,000 prestige is a small price to pay for being able to use the best overloads without decay.

The decay is insignificant. If you repair your ship after running the overloads the you turn off the overloads. If you wait till combat you wont have the time to run the overloads and your shield shunt will not be available.

The benefits you get from the overloads by far outway the very slow decay rate. Chances are good none of your components will fail due to decay, It's not worth the worry.
