I'm a reasonably new pilot on Lowca, been really enjoying space so far. The lack of lightsabers and ability to truly outperform an enemy has a strong appeal to me (even if it just means I get outperformed a lot). However, before delving into PvP, I figured I'd make a quick run at these forums to see what dominant thoughts were. I'm very glad I did, I would've taken a slow heavy x into PvP and probably gotten wiped out a few dozen times before realizing my mistake.
So, my questions are on PvP, loot, and decay, as the title implies.
For PvP: As far as small maneuverable craft go, how does the heavy z95 stack up? I realize a good pilot can make a terrible ship perform well, but I was more concerned about things like hitbox size. Is it exceptionally large compared to the other light fighters? I didn't read about it being used very much at all, and considering it's stats that was surprising to me. I am interested in why people shy away from this craft for PvP, assuming they do.
For Loot: One of the prerequisites some people listed for PvP was a well-REed engine. I do not, unfortunately, have access to one at the moment. I realize deep space can be used to pick up loot - though apparently extremely high cert items - but I was wondering where else I could pick up all the cert4,6,8 equipment most efficiently. Currently, I have been doing duty missions against tier 4 TIEs over and over, that seems to give me a decent yield of items. I tried Kessel, but it was incredibly inconcistent, and I could take in any serious loot. Are there preferred locations or enemies?
For decay: I have heard it hinted that there is no decay in Deep Space. That would be great for me, as I could go there in my awing or heavy z95 and get whooped over and over, hopefully learning something each time, without having to worry about destroying my 'fancy', 'beautiful' equipment. Is there decay in DS or no?
I am terribly sorry if any of these were clearly covered somewhere. I read through the newbie guides and the FAQ, as well as random other threads in the first several pages on this forum.
So far, I'm really enjoying space, and hopefully I'll soon be up trying to blow up any PvPers on Lowca. Thanks a lot for your help, and your time.

By no means is this a comprehensive answer (and btw, I too /salute you for doing some research before blindly posting, you'll find that goes a long way here) but this is some off the top of my head.
The HeavyZ95's a fine ship, and a lot of pilots use it until they hit tier 4 if not Ace. It's hitbox size isn't particularly large, but during the grind it won't matter much either way. I've never used one in PvP so I can't offer any opinions on it.
As far as RE'd equipment, just take it as it comes. During the course of both your grind as well as post-Ace flying you'll come across more than enough equipment to outfit yourself just fine. Yes, we're always looking for that next step up in quality, but just keep an eye on what you loot and you'll be fine. One of the recent patches was to ensure that loot dropped relative to the level of the enemy killed. So you'll loot lower level loot off of the lower tiered ships, and higher leveled loot off the tier 4-5's. You might try the space station missions in Yavin and Endor for some good duty missions with lots of loot, and the much vaunted Black Sun missions as well.
Decay: All damage to ship chassis and equipment is completely restored upon hypering out of Deepspace. Doesn't matter if it's a PvP or a PvE death, although occasionally there are reports of this bugging in rare instances. Never happened to me however. Being able to go there over and over without decay worry is the reason this was instituted, to encourage PvP there. So in short, no, there is no decay in Deepspace.
Edit: Didn't mean to quote your entire post, just had it up for reference purposes.

personally i love my advanced x-wing loaded out with REed parts for pvp agaisnt any ship. I have three ships decked out for PvP the x-wing, a-wing, and B-22, But mostly i fly the advanced x-wing .
decent REed parts and good piloting skills can make the advanced x-wing just as formidable imho. ![]()

One smoked me tonight in my KSE, was a nice fight, got utterly shocked by his turning radius.
