I have a neutral toon that will begintraining as a freelance pilot. My question is this: my friends in game are imp, so can they assist me on my missions? and canI assist them on theirs?

depending on which neutral squad you do:
Corsec: starts on Corellia, is 100% neutral..I have not yet done this squad, so I do not know if any missions involve killing imperials, but for the most part I am sure they could help, and the master mission you get to choose which vette you wanna blow up.
Smuggler's Alliance: starts on Tatooine, kind of Rebel aligned, tho not 100%, there are a coupe missions involving killing Imperials and the master mission is against imperials, your friends would not be able to help you as much as Corsec or...
RSF: starts on Naboo, 100% Imperial aligned, you cannot even attack Imperial NPC's and master mission is against Rebels
