Your right, i did. I panicked.

- Coming out of hyperspace while overt... makes me grit my teeth every time. Oh so vulnerable... I always expect to be load killed or at least find some overt wizzing around nearby.

- Just left deepspace. No overloads set now. I may as well have my pants down.

- Hostle player shows up on Z key. My reation anytime someone shows up, well ever watch the movie "Das Boot?" ... "ALARM!!!! Crash dive, all hands forward, move move move!"

- Y Wing in my mind, first reaction: = missle + turret.

Given those 4 points, all of which flashed through my head in less than a 2nd, i made the decision to shoot as soon as i could. HEH.

One problem with rebel ships, none of them are ever truly obsolete. I never judge a pilot by what hes flying, only the capabilties of the ship.

Ya i send him a tell after the 2nd time around in the most friendly manner possible to which i received no reply. Sadly I probably traumatized the guy to space from this day henceforth. I did honestly , for a fraction of a second think about flying away, but we were both too close as it was when i came out of hyper, and i didnt want to chance him trying his hand at a little revenge.

acutally i did apologize..... kinda.... on the 2nd time around. said i was sorry to bother him and gave two bits of advice.

- spam the z key
- going overt isn't worth the risk until your on teir 4 mobs at the very least.

Hopefully he takes my advice.

Oh well, im done with this little drama. guilty concience for teh win.

I honestly feel a slight twinge of guilt. A slight one... really..

Was in DS grinding FPs, wasn't keeping a close eye on which ships i was drifting into, and caught a corvette broadside right up my tail pipe. Took out my rear armor, chaff, and my capacitor. Well, thats it, im done on this trip. So off i hyper to go land, after all, im not gonna sit at a starport and do overloads whilist overt, thats just ASKING for it, so i need to land.

Come out of hyper, check for nearest enemy, blech, just teir 1 newbie fodder, then hit the Z key as im flying towards station, and much to my surpise, is a Y wing. Now, im in a serious spot here. I just came out of hyper, and my droid commands are gone. So im flying really slow. Well, im not gonna sit there and think about what this guy is up to, im gonna move in to kill him before he kills me. Going as slow as i was without EO3, so i circle thinking, "any second now hes gonna turn on me and blow me away, or theres someone in that damn turret thats gonna light me up!". WIth this on my mind, i took the first thing i could get.. missle tone. So off three MK II IR's fly, in what is basically a comet of death, and i remember thinking, "Dammit theyre going so low, HIT HIM ALERADY!" KABOOM. hes dead.

So he respawns at the very station im trying to land at. With my scope now clear of hostile players, i take the time to exampine his ship. Y wing...... Not a long probe.. a Y wing, he did ahve a gun on his turret, but if it was manned or not i dunno. I dont think it was. Then i realized he was killing teir 1 and teir 2 ties when i found him.

Ok.... im an arse.. and have redefined the meaning of, "overkill". Lets face it, three MK II Ir missles on what all signs indicate, is a teir 1 newbie. UGH. I didnt send him a tell or anything, i just sheepisly tried to slip into port before he realized it was me and gave me an earful lol

Ok, that was bad, but hey, i react, i dont think about this stuff, i see a threat, and i react to it. Shoot first, ask questions later. heh.

So vape a newbie pilot.. shame on me.


So then i come back again from deepspace 30 mins later, and THERE HE IS AGAIN!.

Now my thought was, "didn't he learn anything the first time?" This is when i stopped feeling guilty, and approached him again. This time im SERIOUSLY expecting him to be on his toes, and i fully expect to see him turn his ship around and go straight at me. Nope... he didnt. got within 300 meters, and smoked him again.

*sigh* shame on him im thinking for not learning the first time, but im still an arse for killing him to begin with.

Given that the player was only teir 1 or 2, he/she may not have know how to select friendly or enemy players, or what that "plink" sound is. I would have sent the pilot a /tell, strike up a conversation regarding the dangers of going overt in space (and how to deal with them).

It's not like youwould be in anydanger...you could have kept your IR's locked on the y-wing while you are talking.

Dont feel too bad...it's not like decay on a y-wing or it's subcomponents is a great loss.

All's fair when you're overt!

Last night was the first time I tried going overt in space. I am working on my second half of tier 2 Black Epsilon in my TIE, and figured what the heck, I may as well get some FPs for all the A and B-wings I am shooting down.

With info from this board, I had enough sense to map a button on my stick to "Target Nearest Enemy Player". I kept tapping it every couple seconds. I knew if anyone serious got the drop on me, I'd be debris in no time.

Turns out it didn't matter. After about 30 minutes of dogfighting, I was starting to wonder if my key mapping wasn't working. Then it happened. Tap the button, a player name comes up. Check the ship configuration... Uh-oh. A-Wing. This isn't another guy in a noob ship harassing a space station.

I immediately turn tail and boost, but he's still pulling on me fast. My level 4 engine and booster isn't going to save my hide this time! I hit my hyperspace macro, think for a second, and then promptly /aborthyper. I'm overt, I'm prey, and I'm not going to learn anything by running. I turn in and start corkscrewing toward my executioner. He cuts to the chase and comes in for the kill... I fire a couple shots as he approaches, and... I get a quick, painless death!

It was fun, and I had it coming. It was a rush flying out there, knowing someone could come in anytime and hunt me down.

I'll definitely be going overt more in the future, cannon fodder or not. With the reward of FPs comes the risk that someone's going to come in with your foe's best interest in mind.

That's alright, I caught this guy in Dath farming TIE's right next toan Imperial station. I fly up to the station, declare, and start counting backwards from thirty (in third-person view, his A-wing in the reticle, my finger on "Print Screen").

"You're PvP status has been changed to Overt"

And I remember this one joke someone told me... What's the last thing you feel when you see a member of the Rebellion?

I'm running basic PvE stuff, I only had EO2 and WO1. I down his shields and armor in short order and target his engines.They go one way, his A-wing goes another (I love that).I stop in front of him, at his 12 high to stay out of his guns, give him a nice "You rebel scum..." and send him on a one way trip to Dath space station. I get a tell after he loads in, " **** you Gimperial." Much taken aback at this blatant sore loser-ship I simply replied, "And this coming from the smoking space debris..."

Newb, pro, elite, we know what risks are involved with going overt. Anyone that isn't hitting his/her nearest enemy player key (Shift+Tab by default) every ten seconds is asking for trouble.

There is no shame, Rapax, in vaping a n00b. As you said, he was back at it again not soon after you scorched him the first time.
