I noticed that it has a 175k mass..
Isn't that quite big for a small ship? I mean I don't think it's that big... I might be mistaken though..
What's really wierd is thata lot of thehigh lvl components have really high mass. Is this the way it's meant to be? Or will it be tweaked..

Probably to outfit with high level pieces. But the Ywing has 170k too but that's becasue its meant to be a bomber, darn thing handles like a brick in cement.

Later on you'll want to start having Shipwrights Reverse Engineer Cert 10 items for you to use in your ship. Or you need to start building your ship smartly and not throwing everything onto it. You have to find what type of fighter you want in space. Personally I'll have 3 different ships depending on the mission and support role I have in my flight wing.
One for speedy hits, One thats a balanced fighter and then a Heavy weight brusier to dish out the hits.
You look at mass like it is...just mass it has no shape it's just a unit of measurement. So you could have a rock that weighted 2 tons but only as big as a softball. The ships construction is only concerned with how much weight it can support and not the physcial placement of the parts.

Can someone tell me what is needed to make the Firespray and where to find the essential parts please.

The 'essential' parts is the schematic. The schematic comes in 8 parts. Each part is a random drop when a shipwright RE's a piece(s) of space loot.
The drop rate is in the region of 1 part in every 200 RE's (subjective feel, some think it's nearer 100parts, but it is in this order of magnitude). Sometimes you can get very lucky and have 2 in less than 50, others you can go 400parts without getting any.
Once you have all 8 parts then a shipwright can put them together to form a limited use schematic (random uses, in single figures)
Then it is normal ship chassis materials, no special components needed.
