I have browsed these forums a little and havent found anything explaining how decay in space works. Do your weapons, chasis, and other componets only decay when you get destroyed? I am most concerned about chasis. I am a 4333 pilot and still dont know about this lol. If anyone can explain how it works, or point me to a post explaining it I would be very gratefull.

You only take decay on your chassis and the parts that were damaged. If you eject, every part of your ship gets a LITTLE damaged, I believe.

It's better to die in combat than to eject.

I was under the impression if you eject your ships damage stays at the level it was as you ejected where as if you dont eject obviuosly more damage is incurred (and you pay the price of stupid amounts of BF). But I'm probably completely wrong

As for the chasis, I've heard that it doesn't matter how low this goes (capped at 10 I think) being as if you have no armour or sheilds, you're 1 shot away from death no matter what your chasis level is.

Ok, I figured if you died or ejected, but what if you simply start taking damage and you are able to hyperspace to safety and repair. I am mostly worried about my ROTW ships hehe I dont want to loose the chasis if you can only do the quest once.

I don't know the numbers, (someone help me if you have 'em) but decay is experienced at repair time. If you haven't mastered yet, you can reduce decay by repairing in quarters instead of all at once. "Only a little bit?" The more points you are repairing at a time, the larger the decay.

For overloads, lvl 3's won't cause decay. lvl 4's will, unless you go to DS or repair as above.

sorry to hijack but i think this falls under this section as well

what about components IE. reactors weapons etc...

when you use astromech commands such as reactor overload and weapon or cap overload it shorten the lifespan of that component. Do those commands also affect the chassis as well?

Also I have a reactor currently that takes about 10% damage whenever i use the reactor overload command but it is repairable..which I also assume removes condition and hitpoints as well.. its it better to use repair kits or to repair at stations?

The point at which your components take decay is around 10 points of damage. Overload 3 commands do 8, so you can repair those without decay. Overload 4 commands do 18, so to prevent decay, you need to go to Deep Space at the end of your day's flight. These commands only damage the components that are being overloaded, but be aware, weapons overload affects guns, missile launchers, and countermeasure launchers.

The decay you suffer is 10% of the total missing armor and HP. For instance, if your ship's chassis is 0/1000 HP, when it repairs it'll lose 10% of 1000, or 100 HP, and end up repaired at 900/900. If it's 500/750, 10% of 250 is 25, so it'll repair to 725/725. Same system for components as well.
