It's still bugged.

You only need a pilot aboard to mine, if you want.

Is there anyway to bypass the bug on the Y-8 mission

I'm working on a workaround right now. I'm likely wasting my time, but so what? I get jumped randomly by tier 3 and 4 ships in Kash, and the XP and loot are great. I think the mission itself isn't what's bugged, I think it's the code that gives the waypoint, because the information doesn't show up in either the datapad when you press for details, and it is the same in the quest journal.

Probably one of the lines in the Publish 18 ( when it became bugged from all reports) download caused the Start line of code to be skipped. Ofcourse, I also heard that the ship itself ig bugged, so all this might be a waste of time even if I can find a workaround.

What I think will happen is, when you find the right location, and wait the right amount of time, the ships will spawn, and the mission will continue as normal. This is what I hope anyway.

Now, watch this post get flamed...anyway, if I do find the right location, I'll post the workaround.

thanks all for comments -two more questions:

what is the purpose of 2 operators ( 2 seats in front part of the ship )

is it possible to get big parts of asteroid with tractor beam derectly to cargo hold, without breaking this "big" stones in to smaller parts ? (as we have to do on all mining ships - cut off big stone, cut off this stone into sevetral smaller and get them into cargo hold by t-beam or by hitting again this small parts with m-laser )

thanks all, and sorry for my english - its not my native tang

This was a work around to a bug in beta where there was one operator seat and one normal seat, however if you sat in the normal seat then you would become trapped, by making it a second operator seat you don't get trapped.

- what size stones can I get on board

Same size chunks as fighter, just cargo hold is much bigger

Pre requisits:

  • 2 accounts 2 computers (someone has to be in the top turret at all times, I can't imagine an actual player wanting to do this)

Equip your Y-8 like this:

  • Top turret is the tractor beem
  • fixed forward gun is your Y-8 elite mineing laser
  • rear mounted wapon you can do with as you please, its mostly useless
  • droid progrms: Reactor OL4, Cap OL4, Engine OL 3, Weapon OL 3, Shield shunt 4
  • Cargo hold, bigger is better

When you launch:

  • 2nd account get in 1 of the 2 opperations chair and run the 4 overloads.
  • after over loads are complete move the 2nd account to the upper turret
  • Toggle the Tractor beem on with the 2nd account (doing it from the pilot seat will only turn on an imaginary tractor beem that does nothing)
  • While looking in first person view pilots chair adjust the tractor beem so that half of the beem runs down the middle-left strutt in the forward window. This approxamatly intersects your reticle's cross hair at 50m-150m from target rock.
  • Once the beem is aimed the pilot needs to zoom out to external view. You cant see jack from the interior view.
  • use the laser on the big rock to break of a chunk
  • Target the chunk and match its speed.
  • Optimal distance to target is 50m-150m. if it's farther than 180m, just turn around and break off another chunk. dont bother chaceing anything.
  • Aim the beem at the center of rotation, Put the white flashlight on the green lead indicator.
  • Tap the chunk with the laser and SLURP 90-100% of the chunk instanly pops in your hold. Most of the time I do not bother picking up the small potatos the splatter around. but if you must you will be at the same speed as the little rocks for EZ pickup with the beem.

If I were to do this in a fighter, I would use auto follow instead of matching target speed. A fighter is better able to adjust speed than the Y-8 and autofollow puts you in the most optomal distance and aimed at the center of rotation.

thanks for nice info !

but it looks like - its better to mine asteroids by "standart" mining ship...not Y-8. I was in hope, that with Y-8 I'll be able to track into my cargo hold big chunks, without cutting them into small parts. Will deed my Y-8 back from datapad to inventory

The advantage the y-8 has over a fighter is cargo space. A fighter can only hold 1.5k of resorces max. A Y-8 can hold 35k max. Also the technique I described above if done correctly will suck the entire chunk into the hold when the chunk is broken into small chunks.
